Has anyone used the JGF 400DF motor in the Shogun or Walkera 36 ? I assume they are the same. I tried a 430L 3550 in the 36 and it is too twitchy vertically. The DF36 has a 131t main gear. What is the Shogun main tooth count ?
I am looking at the 400DF instead of 400DH because the 400DF is 3000 k/v and the 400DH 4000+ K/v. I can use more options on the pinion with the DF if the k/v is not so low that it will bog with larger pinions.

I counted 132 twice on the DF36. I did try the JGF400DF motor and it is excellent for sport flying. It will leap off the ground and climb faster than I can manage it, but not as fast as with the 430L 3550. Hover amps are 5.5 to 6 amps and max amps tied down 100% throttle, 11 deg + pitch was 16 amps.
I couldn't get soft start to work with the Align BL-35G, they say I need a Phoenix 25 or 35 for that to work. I switched back to the 430L 3550 and 10t pinion and get about the same power curve. I haven't measured the amp draw yet.

Stableblade...I thougt I saw 133 in a Shogun manaul and looked again and your right 132. Sorry.
I need to change my calculations now.

I have been flying the 400DF in my Walkera 36 since my first post with a break flying a 400LF 2800. I went back to the JGF 400DF. It is lighter, draws less power and seems to have the same or better performance, and is more quiet.
With a 13t pinion it easily keeps up with cars going down the road at 55 - 60 mph. A little slower with a 12t but runs cooler and saves battery drain. I am a sport flier, can't speak for 3D, but I can get it up as high as a large old maple tree in a flash. I'll keep it.

I replaced the OEM brushed motor with the JGF 400DH (8T pinion) for my Shogun, and it was great (very light, longer flight and extremely stronger than the OEM). It draw much lesser current than the OEM. I then replaced the JGF 400DH with Align 400L brushless motor (used for Trex with 10T pinion) using the same CC-25 ESC. More power, but draw more current than the JGF 400DH. I would go with the 400DH, and it is an excellent setup for the Shogun in my idea.

I have been running the 400DF since about the first post and came back to say it is doing excellent with a 12t pinion on the 132T main gear. Running 2300 rpm, and after 8.5 minutes air time put 1100 ma back into the batteries. That is with lots of fast 100+ foot climbs, stall turns, FAST FFF and just general flying.
Excellent, just what I wanted. The 400DF is running very warm, maybe close to the 400LF 2800. Since the 400DF is only 40g , I think it is the best solution. Now I have more pinion options for governor mode. I do need a Phoenix esc, using a 35a. The 400DF don't like the Align ESC's, still no luck at soft starting with them, and I guess a person can tune a Phoenix to start and run any motor.
