set up a ESC

hello, when setting up my ESC i was wondering what does the brake do??? what happens when its on or off?? read somwhere that when hovering (beginner) it was best to turn off brake, but when the pilot gets more advanced it should be switched on...
any help here???

The brake function is for planes. It does what it say's on the tin - brakes/stops the motor. Not a good choice on a heli :badair:
