View Full Version : Sounds like a good heli??
It's decision time for me on stepping up from a 30 Hawk Pro to a 50 sized machine. Hawk was a great trainer and beater heli, no regrets! I will not purchase a TT product, so that's out. Im intrigued by this Hurrican. I have some questions for those who have owned/flown it. I really appreciate any feedback you can give, thanks everyone!
1. Any difference between the Hurrican and JR A/S?
2. Any mechanical failures you've experienced?
3. Any strange flight characteristics or tendencies?
4. Dissapointments with quality or build?
5. If you could rate it 1 - 10, what would you give it and why.
Thanks!

Hi naz,
I'll give you a little background on myself and my son which should answer some of your questions.
I got back into flying three years ago and my 14 yr old son who was 11 at the time decided he wanted to learn to fly heli's also, I bought a Raptor 60 kit and hooked up with Tim Tompkins and was able to get it back in the air quickly, I then bought Steven (my son) a Raptor 60 used and Tim taught him to fly. I built a Predator 60 kit and fell in love with it, then went on to a Predator carbon Gasser SE. We then hooked up with John Beech of Audacity Models and began to fly the Tiger 50 and have added 3 T-Rex's to the fleet, Steven has become a very good 3D pilot and I'm still looping, rolling and flying circuits and I'm ok with that as I love to build just as much as flying. I've been a friend of Rusty Howard's (Helibrite) for a few years and he became the US Distributor for the RjX Hurrican 50 heli a few months ago and we chatted about the RjX aluminum parts and he said they would probably fit my Tiger 50 and asked if I was interested, well things weren't going that great with for us with Audacity and I ordered the Full Carbon kit and Steven and I became Field Reps for RjXofUSA. Steven is our Team RjX pilot and has been flying this carbon Hurrican for almost 4 months, I built it box stock full carbon kit and he flew it for a month, then before IRCHASE I bought all the metal upgrade parts and put them on and he has been flying it hard ever since.
1. Any difference between the Hurrican and JR A/S?
Throttle servo openings on both sides are cut verticle instead of horizontal, other than that the base Hurrican 50 and AS 50 are the same except the price Hurrican 50 base model with G-10 frame is $399, AS50 is $550
2. Any mechanical failures you've experienced?
none that I've been made aware of, we've had no problems, heli is rock solid
3. Any strange flight characteristics or tendencies?
Ours flys like its on rails, we've let a few top name pilots fly it and they comment that it's locked in from the get go and it flys like a 90 size ship (sorry I can't mention there names) but Vance Hill in the forums has had stick time and has commented on it and liked the way it flew
4. Dissapointments with quality or build?
As i mentioned at the beginning I've built some Raptors, Predators, Tiger 50's and T-Rex's, this was a very easy build throughout, stacked frames, I built the Carbon kit and the G-10 kit that we are currently testing our "E" conversion kit on and our Test Engineer is reporting very favorible results, Steven will get stick time on this "E" kit in the next two weeks and he'll have his glow machine there as well so we can get some feedback between both machines. The kit went together quite easily, instructions were easy to follow, all the metal parts are very hi end quality, I was quite impressed as I've purchased upgrade bits from Quick UK and these are of the same quality and finished in Silver
5. If you could rate it 1 - 10, what would you give it and why.
10 :clappp I'm not trying to be biased here just because I'm a rep but this is the most enjoyable heli in our fleet and between Steven and I we have 14, before getting involved with RjX we were thinging about our next 90 size kit either a MA Stratus, Synergy N9, or Avant Aurora We've now decided to hold off a bit because RjX has a 90 size ship already on the drawing board and given the quality of our Hurrican 50 I'm sure there 90 size machine will also be a winer, Steven has been able to fly the Hurrican 50 hard every weekend for months and it's holding up very well, he did have a clunk line come off down wind and tried to fly it back to himself instead of autoing into the wind and walking down field to get it and flew it back with the wind and had a hard landing on the tail and it only took out the carbon tail boom, $22 and he was back in the air the next day.
You can see some pictures of our heli in the Hurrican 50 build thread, this is the same one he has been flying since the beginning of October.

Great response, thanks Clyde! So one other question for you, if you had to change one thing on the heli, what would it be? (no, you can't say nothing... )
Thanks Clyde!

Hi Calvin,
There is only one thing that I would and did change, I ran a carbon tail push rod down below the boom and put a single support in directly behind the horz fin, other than that the manufacturer(s) JR and RjX did an awesome job with the AS50 and the Hurrican 50 and I give this heli 10 Radix blades for a review, I remember a cooking show years ago that gave out golden forks for I thought the Radix blades would be a fitting end

Clyde,
Thanks for answering Calvin's questions. Thanks for your interest Calvin
Thanks guys for your feedback! Does RJX supply engines / muffler combo's too or just kits? Also, can you get the canapy in white/fiberglass? Thanks again

The white fiberglass canopies should be able to be got on our next order. The kits we have now have yellow and red canopies but are paintable. As of right now RJX has just got kits , up-grades and replacment parts
Thanks Rusty
