Picked up a second hand Vario Benzin. Well not ALL Vario. It has the Airstar frames with 4 servo CCPM.
The heli has only been hovered a couple of times. The canopy has never been put on it.
It came with Futaba 9001 servos on the swash and throttle. I think those servos are too slow for 4 servo CCPM because when I move the collective fast the swash is not going up even. the ends top and bottom are good, It's just the transition is not uniform.

Anyhow, a couple of things to get for it and It should be in the air.

She lives!!!! :woohoo

She had been sitting for a while and was a bit gummed up and the carb. insulator was broken.

I finally got everything cleaned up and fixed and hovered half a tank thru her in my front yard. Can't wait to get her to the field and FLY her. :D

Let us know how it goes....

BTW keep and eye on your frames between the throttle servo space and the area where the muffler mounts.

is this a problem area for the airstar frames?

What would I need to convert this to an Acrobatic? Would it be worth the while?

The Airstar frames are thinner than the Vario ones. I think some have cracked there but just keep an eye on it.

Not sure what you would need to convert, as I don't know what small changes Airstar made.
The servos mount vertically in the Vario. I like that setup better but I would fly what you have...for now
Heliman53 had a frame set for sale, you may PM him and see if he still has them....Nice guy

The servos mount vertically in the Vario.

That is one of the reasons I asked. I would rather they be vertical. That would keep the servos from "rolling" under load.
Maybe I can fab up some bridges for them.

The servos will be fine as they are under a load. I have two AP ships with this frame set, no problems with the servos rolling.
