View Full Version : switch off - power drain???
Is it true that when the on/off switch is in the off position that there is still a power drain on a Duralite rx battery? If it's true, how and why? I'm ordering a Duralite system tomorrow and want to learn as much as I can before hand. Thanks.

I've not heard that before, if the switch is in the open (off) position, there can be no passage of power.
Even if it's true, the draw would be considered minimal.
Thanks, Wayne. I thought I read it here somewhere but it just didn't make sense to me.

With the regulator that has the fail safe switch installed. Yes there is a slight power drain from the battery even when the switch is in the off position.
This is not the case with the regulator that uses a normal switch installed before the regulator.
For example only.
If your using the regulator with the fail safe switch included. You have a fully charged battery. You leave the model sitting for a couple of months without charging or doing anything to it. The battery will most likely be completely dead in that time span.
If your going to store a model for that long with a regulator with fail safe switch. IT is best to unplug the battery from the regulator.

amen to that, some people sometimes put the regulator before the switch and it'll kill that battery ask me how i know!! Ron

I forgot all about it and let a switch safe one sit for about 3 or 4 months, I saw it sitting in a drawer and panicked and grabbed the tester and it was at 7.7 volts no load. So its a very SMALL current going through the switch thats holding the regulator in the off state and that current drain is a small price to pay for peace of mind that a 4 dollar switch failing isnt going to bring down your prized bird. Trust me you will be VERY happy with a Duralite purchase.
