Hi all
I am getting to a point on the sim that it is really time to start thinking about the real thing. I have read everything I can find on the net. I am really torn between going for the V2 30 or the 50 Titan. I am going to be on a family budget and do not want to out grow my heli. I would like something that I can fly as a newb and go 3D someday. I read that the 50 is more stable and think that the extra dollars spent up front my be the way to go. Any advice would be appreciated.

P.S. I have purchased a DX7 to start with.

Thanks much

If money is a concern then go with a .30 with an OS37. Cheap parts, less fuel.

My friend has a ball with his! Check out the video below.

If you want to spend and burn a bit more than go for the 50.

Really, the difference between the two boils down to blades in my opinion. If you already have the simulator, I would say get the 50. I'm not sold on the Titan as I think the V2 is plenty. You can always upgrade the 30, but the 50 is basically the same thing just a little bit more power. All things being equal, fly what people around you are flying and what you can get parts easily with. 95% of the time, that's a Raptor 50.

Well my real concern is out growing my heli. I am willing to spend a bit more if I can get a longer curve out of it. Meaning I do not want to get to a point where I want the 50 and have the 30. If buying the 50 upfront for a newbie with the realflight g3.5 is an option then I will go with that. If the 50 is to much for a newbie then I guess the smart move is the 30. This is the problem I am having deciding.

You can ALWAYS upgrade your 30 to a 50. Different motor, gears, and tail boom basically.

or you can do like I suggest to newbies that 'feel' certain they will stick around awhile, buy a 50 kit, hang a 30 engine and muffler in it and learn to fly. You CAN do loops, flips and tumbles with a 30, no problem. When you want to upgrade, a motor and pipe swap get's it done.
the basis for starting with a 30; 20+ minute run times with the 30 versus 12-13 minute times with the 50. Same cost in parts, same fuel, same setup. A 30 or 37 will turn 600's as well, however it will not have the grunt to sustain a full power climbout at 10 degrees of pitch. buy 550's and the engine is happier.
Budget the 50 and a good pipe, then compare the 37 and a decent pipe, the 37 and pie should average $150-175 and last through your learning curve and have enough left to pass on..

Check out other brands of helis as well. TT are good and well known but there are others coming along that are just as good and a lower cost.

Dat,

I was in the same situation when I started. Go with the 50 to start with. That way you will not be worried about upgrading so soon. What was said above was correct in that a 30 can be upgraded to a 50 but that requires a new motor along with the other parts. I would recommend just going with the 50 from the start. If you feel that there is too much power to start with (which I doubt will be a problem) you can adjust the throttle in the throttle curves to turn it down until you are ready for it. It really is not that much more money to go with the 50 to start with and then you will be ready for the future.

I agree, why buy twice?

I just want you all to know that I really appreciate the advice. I thank you all for taking the time to help me out. I think I will go with the 50. My biggest concern is not having to spend money twice. If the 50 is not to much for a noob then that is surly the way to go for me. I have been having a great time with the G3.5 sim and know that the transition to the real thing will be a big learning curve. I have no thoughts of going 3D for some time but do want to plan for the future. I really just want to be smart with my dollars.

Once again thanks for the great site and all the help.
