ok i want a raptor 50SE, and want my RX battery to be a lipo to save some weight and get more flights out of a charge, what is the best mah rating that provides performance along with many flights between charges?

I've been using Lion batteries from Duralite with a Duralite 5.3v regulator and I get about 9 flights in a day. I haven't been able to push more than that because of time, but I'm sure I could get a couple more flights.

Regardless, you will need a regulator to tone down the voltage and it depends on what servos you are using. If you are using all digitals, it will put more of a load on your electric system. I'm using all 9252's and Duralite 2S2P 4300 7.4v. I've flown a gallon and a half on a 50 in two days on one charge. I was pushing it a little bit though on the second day.

ok so the 2S2P 4300 looks like the way to go. i was just on flightpowers website and did some research and the 2S2P 4300mah lipo is only 40 grams heavier, not bad, ok so you said you got 9 flights on one charge that is more than enough for me.

thanks ClayK

I get anywhere between 13 and 15 flights off of my duralites on my 50 and 10-13 on my 90's basically I charge friday nights for the weekends worth of flying. On a really heavy weekend I may spot charge at the field on Sunday but I have not had to do that many times

Wcc, note he's talking LiIon and not LiPo. There's a difference, and I personally dont prefer soft pack lipos in a nitro, others feel differently.

Like Rick said, you can get more, I just haven't had enough time in the day to get more than 9 flights. I've definitely gotten 15 or so in two days at events before a recharge.

I believe the LiIon to be more stable and resilient than the LiPos, cuda is right.

oh yes Sorry I did mean li-ion batteries not lipo.. I am with Bcuda on that one.. Still not ready to make the jump to lipo receiver packs on my nitros

so which do you think i should go with Lipo or LiIon, im looking to do mild 3D and keep this heli as i progress into harder 3D

Using the duralite 5.3 volt regulator do you have to step down the voltage to the tail servo when using a futaba 601 or 401 gyro.

wcc963-- I personally would use Li-Ion batts

PLPFlyboy-- I use the 5.3 regulator and do not step it down to my gyros. I have 6 of these setups one with 401 and the rest are 601/611 havent experienced any problems yet.

Exactly what Rick said, cept I have two 401s and the rest are 601/611 setups. You get the idea.

Yeah i get the idea and thanks.

I puffed two lipo packs in relatively minor Trex crashes, I just dont think they are a good idea in the vibration and potential impact energy environment of a nitro heli. Those packs were 80 some bucks a pop, that makes crash cost add up quick. I've never lost a LiIon in a crash.

yeah but so are duralite LiIon packs,

here: this is the smaller of the 2 and its 82.95

yes, i also fly a rex, a 450 and have damaged a pack in a crash, i didnt think about the impact on the lipos in a crash, so i pretty sure now that im gonna go with the LiIon packs.

is the 4300mah to heavy at 204 grams, for a 50-size heli?

Nope, I fly one in my Raptor 50 with no problems.

Me too, and I've planted it good once and didnt damage the battery.

Ive planted a lot of lipos ,,Still got all lipos I've ever bought , some 2 years old.

I use a UBEC and a three cell 1320 for about 9 flights on my 50

Fromeco 4800 $54 run my 90 about 12-14 flights ,,not sure never pushed it

fromeco 2400 is only $28 i think it will go about 8 on a 50

Fromeco Arazona reg fixes the voltage to tail at 5.4 and allows adjustment of voltage to all other servos..

Been using fromeco for over a year without any problems.

That other company I've seen some bad -faulty plugs ,,,,saw a nice MA go in, a few weeks latter we found a bad connector on another MA causing a glitch luckly before spool up.

Think I like Fromeco
