LiPo Battery Balance plug

I have a few LiPo's that don't have balance plugs.
Can I unwrap the heatshrink (cut it off) and find and fit cell connections to a plug and re-heatshrink them ok?
Electrically it would seem fine, but is there any problem with 'tampering' with them and having them end up less safe?

I have done that to some of my older packs. I picked up some TP balance connectors and wired them according to the TP balancer diagram.

How did you patch into the 'mid cell' connections?
They sare very short, and I can't get to the actual contact where they must have soldered their internal link wires. Though they must be in there somewhere to be got at I guess.
