Anyone else have a Mini Titan? What do you think so far? Any problems? What setup/s have you tried? I'm running stock ESC/Motor/Blades. What do you like about it? What do you dislike about it?

I have had one since day one, unfortunately my kit was missing the washout linkages (BK1014).The kit is great, and the build went very well - just wish I could fly it :( Hopefully soon :)

WOW.. Jim sorry to hear that.... I got one in yesterday. Build went great.. Now just gotta install the electronics I'm waiting for the servo's and my gyro...
I'm going with .......
HS-65mg servo's
Logictech 2100T gyro
Futaba 9650 for the tail servo..

Maybe you could get away with the arms off a Trex until some spares are available. I wonder how big of a difference there is in overall length and length from the pivot point to the balls on each end. 3 weeks would be driving me nuts with a new kit to try. I can measure the arms on mine to give you an idea of the difference when I get home from work if you want to give it a try.

Mine is flying. So far it seems like a nice robust heli. I do have concerns about the head being plastic (which feels too soft for my liking)

I'm just waiting for some spare parts at the LHS so I can get a little more daring with mine. I picked up a 401 for it today, but I still don't see myself pushing it until spare parts are available to fix it.
I did have some concerns about heat from the stock motor and lipos. Seemed much higher than I was used to on a REX, especially since I wasn't doing anything more than figure 8s in a parking lot with the Titan. I changed the blades yesterday to a set of carbons and my temps came down a lot. It was pretty cold outside though (40s), so I'll have to wait for better weather and some daylight before I judge this heli too much.
I played around with throttle curves a lot last night too. With a really low throttle curve (0,40,50,60,70,80,95) I only used 1200mah in 6:30 and it was very stable for such a low headspeed. Should be a very nice, stable platform for people just starting out who are intimidated by high headspeed.

I'll check it out. If you haven't already changed to Trex balls, you will need at least 2 where the arms connect to the swash plate to use the Trex arms on your washout block. Even if the sizes are a little off, they have to work at least until you get the TT replacements, you will probably just have to mess with the other links a little to keep everything level. I'll measure them up tonight and let you know the dimensions.

I've had one since before Christmas and put another 2 flights on it this morning, around 10 in total now. When I first built it the cyclic/collective was very 'sticky' with the tight ball links but it's much better now after a few flights. I'm using the stock motor & esc and flew it for the first time with some GCT carbon blades today, a big improvement over the stock woodies, mine needed 3 turns of tape to balance. I've had to increase the cyclic throws to max to speed up rolls & flips and the cyclic is still not quite as good as my 450se although overall the Mini Titan is as nice to fly as the 450se and streets ahead of the lower spec Trex's.
I flew two 6 minute flights this morning and put around 1800mAh back into the packs as I was pushing it pretty hard, at least for me :) . I didn't check the motor temp with my heat gun but I could esily hold the bell as long as I wanted after landing, the pack (FP Evo 20 2150 & 2170) was just warm to the touch and the esc was fairly cool too, ambient today is 8C/46F so fairly cool anyway. I'm using HS-65mg's on cyclic/collective and went for a 3154 on the tail with a CSM 420 gyro which is a good combination so far. Piro rate is pretty fast but not quite the insane speed of the 450se.
Generally I'm pretty impressed, the quality of the parts was good, even though TT seem to use as many as they can, the build went pretty well and took an evening for the structure then the next morning to fit the electrics. I did find the need to pare back the servo mounts to fit HS65's a bit of a pain plus the cut line for the canopy & screen are wrong, if you cut to the lines the screen nearly falls through the canopy.
I'm running the recommended throttle & pitch curves for 3d with -9 to +9 and temperatures aren't a problem and it seems to run much more freely than the 450se, less drag from the belt drive perhaps.

I recieved mine before Christmas and like everyone else, the build went easy. Using the 65mg's, had to modify for intallation, on head and had to turn up the dual rate to get the responsiveness that I am comfortable with as the ball links were quite sticky and are too small for my sizing tool. I tried the old squeeze on the ball links and one link actually split, so I'm thinking the ball links pretty much suck.
As for te electronics, the ace ESC is doing allright but I had some trouble getting the ESC into the progamming mode and I have yet to get the ESC, for certian, into heli/governor mode.
I am using an Airtronics RD8000 and had quite the time setting up the radio for the unconventional design of pulling the swash down to add positve pitch in the blades. So I set up the heli to turn counter clockwise so when the swash is pushed up the blades get positive pitch. It was quite the ordeal to get the tail to work out properly but all is well now.
I haven't been wild with this thing yet as parts don't look readily available as the Trex.
Were are you guys getting the carbon blades? I would love a set.

We've finally got parts in the UK, the local stockist has everything but the wooden main blades so no loss there :) The price is pretty close to Trex 450 spares, some up, some down but in the same field at least. Any 325mm carbon blades should fit, same as the Trex but the blade grips are wider apart and you will need spacers, why couldn't TT use the same spacing as everyone else.
Although the Mini Titan uses the same length main blades the hub and blade grips are longer meaning the centre to centre of the main blades is longer, around 25mm I think, this means the Titan has 14% larger blade disk than the Trex and as it only weighs about 25g more than the Trex 450se, the disk loading is lower.

I'm gonna take mine out in the morning....
I was going to cut out the canopy... but after reading about the close tolerances between it and the screen I decided to leave the canopy the way it is and not cut that part out but just cut out the screen and glued it onto the canopy.. I cut out the top air hole for air flow though....
I'm glad I left the canopy intact hopefully it will give better protection if I get a flybar strike their.
Also to let you all know the Align 220mm flybay is a perfect replacement for the Titan...

Hi!
I have problem with the ACE ESC.
My problem is that, the gov works only on 3000RPM. (I have to setup
100-100-100-100-100 throttle curve for the right gov mode.)
Under 3000 the gov don't keep the RPM, and often switch off the motor,
and I have to auto...
If I use 70-70-70-70-70 TC, and increase the RPM , with proportional switch,
after a mid RPM that don't grows up more. If I increase the switch to
100% the RPM jump suddenly to 3000, and with that the gov became
amaising good. If the battery is in good condition, I can't beat
down the RPM in the air, there is no problem with sudden motor
switches.
What shall I do If I want to fly at lower RPM in gov mode.
Another problem. If I connected the battery at 12.0V, not at 12.6V, the ESC
can not turn the RPM to 3000, and after a few minutes the ESC switch down
the motor again.
Do you have any idea?
Thanks!
Aron

Great flying Colin, very impressive control :OMG
RCHeliJim,
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you with those dimensions. They are very close, I don't think you would have a problem substituting the Trex arms until the TT parts are available. The picture shows the size of the arms for the Trex. The sizes for the Titan are (A)20.5mm, (B)10mm and (C)19mm. There is also an additional hole on the Titan for harder 3d setup beyond the first ball link in the pic. It is 24.5mm from the pivot point.

How do the Mini's fly? Are they as hard to fly as thw Blade CP? Walkera Z400? Or more like a Raptor50.

They fly a lot like the Trex.... If you judge them by feel alone, I can't tell much of a difference between the 2. However, I have done a lot of tweaking/adjusting on my Rex but I am just starting with the Titan.... It will take some time to see what the optimum setup is for the Titan to make a better judgement.

I crashed my Titan yesterday, lost all cyclic and pitch control and though it was a PCM lockout, I hit throttle hold and it went down behind a bush. When I got to it the head block was off the shaft, just held on by the links and I'm guessing the top jesus bolt sheared as it was fitted with loctite and a econd lock-nut. Damage was limited to the skid and one of the main blade grip links which disappeared in the long grass, I also replaced the mainshaft as a precaution but the original lloked straight and the feathering shaft was fine, lucky really as the local model store didn't have one!
The jesus bolts are only thin, maybe 2mm and are threaded for the full length, anyone know a source of small shouldered bolts.

Mine is rockin'... awesome little heli! I'm throwing everything at it that I do on my 90SE and it performs very nicely. Flys like a much bigger heli. I'm running the Medusa motor with Jazz 40, 401/9650, R146iP, Hitec HS65's and FP 2100's (old ones). The collective on mine is a little sticky too but it's slowly smoothing out the more I fly it. I'll be interested to see how long the plastic head block lasts flying hard 3D every pack. But for now it's just plain fun! I'll be flying this bad boy down at Port Charlotte next weekend. Hope to seem some other mini T's there.
Edit: forgot to mention that the V-blades I bought for it wouldn't track so I tried some Radix and they worked great. Not as much "pop" as the V's but very smooth and you just need a bit more stick to get them moving. I'm hoping to get the V's replaced with some that will track and get that wicked V-pop back in there. And the Mavrikk e-series work OK too... a little softer than the Radix even but they tracked well and are better than the stock woodies.

John,
Which medusa motor are you running? Will any motor for the T-rex work with this, or will I have to watch KV rating, because I"m going to guess this helicopter has a slightly lower HS than the rex

Sorry it took so long to reply. I'm running the MR-028-032-3400 on 3S.
I had a crash which didn't look too bad initially... but as I added up all the little plastic head and tail parts that needed to be replaced it came up to about $140 WITHOUT replacing the Radix BLADES!! So, I went ahead and ordered a complete kit which is not much more than replacing the individual parts.
I'm pretty disappointed in the Mini Titan parts prices... they seem a bit high for a small plastic heli. $11.99 for a pair of main shafts... same price for pair of TREX 600 shafts and collar. I haven't compared them against the TREX 450 parts prices but $140 just seems pretty high for not taking out any big items. Throw in the cost of the Radix blades and we're talking about a $195 crash!!! OUCH!
In case anyone is interested, here is my crashed parts listing after going in sideways in idle2:
