Hi Guys.
I have a Raptor 60v2 with an OS 70 engine running 15% byron heli fuel, I use the standard gearing of 9.3-1 and the os specs for the engine say that peak power is available at 16000 rpm.
Do you follow me so far? :?
Therefore the idle up rotor RPM should be 16000/9.3 = 1720rpm.
Am I right or wrong, tell me. Also what should the normal mode RPM be 1550? I heard the head speed should be at least 1600rpm to avoid the "Rappy wobbles" Correct or not?
I am running only +9-9 in idle up, Is this correct?
All help/sugesstions would be greatfully received.

So far 24 people have viewed this post.
I would like to say thanks very much & kiss my ass next time you have a problem.
It would appear I know more than ALL of you "FREAKS",
CHAU, :bomb:

So far your right. I would try it at 1720rpm's and see if the engine is happy I know I ran mine at 1800 with the 9.3 1 with 20% nitro and a Hatori pipe Sb70 and works great. might even crank the old head up a bit more the raptor's seem to like a high head speed. you may have to drop to 9.0 1 so you can acheive the 1900 head speed and retain your engine rpm's. I would change to 9.0 1 and run it up to 1850-1900 and still retain lower engine rpm's the engine is rated at 18,000 but with the higher ratio you will turn about 17,100 at 1900.
My philosiphy is do what ever makes the machine and engine happy. And you like the way it feels. that's all that realy matters.
Hope this help's Sorry no one replied could be just know one knew the answer.
good luck

I think its more like most people use 30% and not that many fly the OS 70 for obvious and beaten to death reasons, although I know a few close friends that love the 70. I think I have run across a few people who run 20% and I know Chris Knowles is one of them, but I don't remember who else. I have never known anyone that I know of that runs 15%.
Therefore the idle up rotor RPM should be 16000/9.3 = 1720rpm
Sounds right. Looks like you know your target speed.

Your right. Do you run different speeds in different modes...personal preference. I do, but I know plenty of people who don't. If you want to avoid wobbles, just like you say, I guess it would be better to run speeds above 1600, I would go for 1800 to 1900.
I am running only +9-9 in idle up, Is this correct?
Does your 70 on 15% bog at that pitch range? This is a question that nobody who has not run an OS 70 on 15% can answer. There are not many "FREAKS" or anyone else who knows that without observing or flying the heli on 15% which almost nobody does. I have seen OS 70's that SCREAM and have loads of power, Chuck Hughes and Alan Bonner, and those who don't like Steve Dixon's. I run +9-9 in all modes except +12 in Hold just to keep it simple. The curves are a little different in I1, I2 but the overall range is still +9 -9.

Thank you, guys, NO, I mean it this time thank you very much.
Here in the UAE I have to pick it up as I go along.
Yes it does bog down a little with the +9-9 on 15%, I will try some 30% cool power & let you know. Thanks once again.

I run the OS 70 with 30% and the Curtis MP 2. Blade are also a factor. But for the most part great power. You'll see though on just a hard climb into a loop you'll loose major head speed with any thing over +9 deg. With the 70 it has the power but you need to manage the collective close with hard maneuvers. I've flown TT V blades and MAH on mine and found the MAH best to my liking and flying skill. The V's are the way to go for real hard 3D. And for just all around sport the TT's are good with a great price. Head speed,I've tried the lower settings and Heli seems to sluggish and feels like it doesn't have enough lift at the lower speeds to me. 1600 to 1650 is what I use for flying and light stunts. For the rest I use 1750 with the stock gearing.
Hope this helps a little
