Hello,,,guess what? Another question!!!
I broke in my stock shogun motor by imersing it in water and running 2 c cells [3 volts] till dead. Dried it out and put it in the heli. Hooked up my ESC and ran her up without the main rotor blades. This was all at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. All was fine and then I see a small fire in the brush area of the motor. It was intermittent and the motor would sag and then pickup again. I read about something like this on this forum about stock motors. Is this normal or is the cheap stock motor crap?
I am new to electric anything so any info would be great
Thanks,

I think my motor might be calling it quits too. I dont know for sure if its the motor though. My lipos seem good. Before and after charge voltages are ok and they take a charge. The heli starts to drop after maybe less than a minute of flight. The motor starts to slow down and i loose head speed and altitude. I land for a minute and take it up again. Flies ok for about 30 seconds then starts to die again. Any ideas?

That sounds just like my Aerohawk. It turned out to be the battery after I had replaced the motor.

how many cycles are typical for a 3 cell lipo lifespan? i have around 40 cycles on my TP1320.

Letīs cut to the chase, ok?
In later posts Iīve asked if the stock motor were 6 or 7,2V. Almost none answered!
Itīs 7,2V - what makes imperative that U HAVE to use 3S batteries.
Thereīs absolutely no problem in immersing the motor on the water, the problem
though is immersing the Lipos.
As far as I can see, Iīm 99% sure that your motor wear out. The brushes has
gone. Replace the motor and youīll fly high again (as Ozzy could say , hehe).
Just figure out that I had this problem with my Draganfly, BUT, the Draganfly uses
4 (!) motors and all them wear out at the same time!!!!!!
I hope I could help.

I'm on my second stock motor now and it's much better than the first. I put a heat sink on it and watched my throttle pitch curves so not to load down the motor too much. But I have ordered the Justgofly BL 400DH motor and they have the 8T pinion now also. It's gonna be a different animal over the stock motor.

Turbo,
I know that now the stock replacements have a built in fan that the originals did not have. Hopefully that helps. i should probably start saving some extra cash to go brushless. i should have gone that route from the begining.

The problem I'm having with the stock motor and speed control is after a 10 minute hover the motor is too hot to touch and my 3S 1500 Kokams are a little warmer than I'd like them to be. Near the 10 minutes the heli will just drop out of the hover and hit the ground, then come up again. It almost sounds like the speed controller is cutting out. Is there a thermal cutoff on the stock speed controller?

stock speed control? the shogun does not come with a speed control. I do know that the stock motor does get extreemly hot just hovering around. I got a bad burn from bumping my finger into it. i only got about 8-9 mins of flying on my 1320 pack so your results seem normal. before you burn up that motor like i did, get a heat sink for it.

Stock speed control = the $40 Evo-Flight Speed Control.

Yeah I should have never bought the controller and just went brushless right away.

im not dissapointed with the stock motors performance. It was fine for my flying style but its just that it burned up is what sucks. I kinda also wish i had just gone brushless from the begining.

From my expierience although limited with electric heli's my 2nd stock motor has worked very well. It does NOT have the fan the new ones have as I've been told. I broke in the motor in water and made sure my collective pitch was conservative so I could use as much RPM's as possible. I put on a heat sink on the motor and have many fights on it.
I do however have a justgofly 400H and a CC25 on order with a 8T pinion and will gladly say goodbye to the can motor.
I bought today a ThunderPower 2100 MA pack and boy ,,it really woke up that antique brushed motor over the the Evoflight 1600 Mah Lypo. I was at 18 minutes with no fade till my wife said DINNER!
Can't wait to try the 400Dh with this pack!
