Made a custom "hat cam" mount for my A640 and went for a spin around the patch in my Taylorcraft. had about a 70° crosswind at 9kts. Slipped it in at the end and put her down on the left wheel. What fun!

I plan to fabricate some strut and tail mounts for my video cameras and shoot some low level aerials over the desert and some rivers/mountains.

Man I miss my RV-6. :(

Looks like the DJ Vegh version of "22 Right, the untold story"!

That is too cool DJ. I remember that view out the cockpit. I ran a couple minute video on my pocket cam when you took me up once before.

Word on the street is that Mark is into making hat cam type thingies also.

You two together could be dangerous!

Funny how something so stupidly simple can yield good results. Don't laugh at these or I will hunt you down!

Me in the hatcam business?? NO WAY! I'd probably piss off the "MAIN" hatcam guy and he'd do his best to screw me and steal from me! HAHAHA!

don't know but this one uses neck vertibrae and muscular stabilization. Active too... the roll/pitch/yaw sensors are in the ears of the wearer and then the signal gets processed by firmware in gray matter. Top notch stuff over here at AZ ChopperCam fellas. HAHAHA

Hey DJ,

Thanks, that was great!

I flew my Mooney back today from VGT (North Las Vegas - was at CES) to San Jose RHV. My passenger took some video, so hopefully he will send it to me and I can post it.

We were at FL190 for most of the trip - winds were howling - 70kts on the nose at times, but the mountain waves were huge and staying high was the only way to go (indicated airspeed varied by over 60kts as we rode through some of the waves - not the worst I have seen, but still quite strong).

Clear skies!

DJ,

I respect your knowledge and the work you do, so please don't take this the wrong way BUT............. I wouldn't have had the balls to put a picture of myself wearing the hat cam.

I almost soiled my pants when I saw that first pic.

Please don't be offended. I think it was very innovative.

DJ even put it on a hunting oriented hat so we would know his warning was genuine  :D

To be honest, I think it was the hat choice that really got me. Not DJ's expression necessarily

I really liked the video though.

Thanks for sharing :D

You do know DJ's from ALABAMA, don't you? :D

Yes I do.

I should know better than to mess with an Alabammer

Mark, do you have the telescoping mast operating yet?

Just curious.

Yeah, I mounted it on a portable cart and I've got a 5 gallon air tank and regulator to erect it. The cylider leaks a little and I need to go ahead and break it down to replace all of the seals before spring gets here. I made an attachment which allows me to use my existing gimbal for the Sony HC-1 and my Rebel. I need to fabricate a gimbal that will allow me to put the XL-2 on top of it.

I was looking at the super heavy duty pan and tilt servo set up from Servo City, but I don't like the way the camera's CG tilts fore/aft when the camera is tilted up and down.

I mounted my video receiver and CV-1's on a hard hat last weekend so it would be all self contained and no dangling wires to get caught up in the main rotor. I brought it to work yesterday for show and tell. One of our other instructors had an emergency response helmet he had made with flashing lights and a siren so they made us pose for photos. I'm the one on the left with the "Helmet Vision".

I'm trying to figure out how to get the spice channel, but it's not working. I'm not from Alabama, I'm from TEXAS! Now it needs a set of horns. And more cowbell.

Glad to hear it! Rebuilding doesn't look like too hard a process, but it is messy with a capital ESSY!

Just take your time , clean everything thoroughly, and you should be set;)

To be fair here, I'm going to have to post a pic of myself wearing a goofy hat now. I wouldn't feel right otherwise.

Sorry. This is turning into a total hijack. I apologize.

dayum straight son! ;)

Born at Ft. Rucker, AL but lived there for less years than fingers on both hands. Lost my accent when I was about 8yrs old (although certian words still come through according to friends).

That hat was part of a costume for a haloween party about 3 yrs ago. I went as a redneck!! LOL But don't let that fool you.. I own a 30-06, 30-30, 12ga., and a couple hand guns. There's still hope for the white trash in me!

I took the rig to work today and told them I had a new "hidden camera" rig that I thought we could use for a new ad campaign. I pulled it out and put it on and they were like???? WTF?

Now we all just need to have an AP get together and we can all wear our AP hats that would be hilarious.

I just looked at your picture again DJ, and I think the thing that really makes it is you left the wide angle lens on there. That thing just looks frickin ginormous.
