Ok, here goes...I finally finished putting my EVO together Friday morning and flew it a couple of tanks Friday afternoon. Nothing fancy, just hovering around. It flew very smooth and I was very impressed with it so far.
Saturday afternoon, I went out flying and my issues started. It seems that when I flip to idle-1 (1800 rpm) or idle-2(1950rpm) my tail starts to twitch intermittently. It isn't consistent from left-to-right or right-to-left and the amount of tail movement varies. At its worst, it swings out about 20-30 degrees, which is very unsettling. This happens every couple of seconds or so. People have asked me what gain I'm running and I'm at about 70% - I have varied this both up and down with no change. The tail doesn't wag - it acts like I put in a quick rudder command, either left or right and stops abruptly. Its different from a tail wag from high gyro gain.
Ok, I figured that it was probably my 9253 servo going so I replaced it with my 9254 out of my Fury, which I know works. All the radio equipment in the evo is from my 50v2 which was in fine working order prior to installation in the evo. Replacing the servo didn't fix it, so I swapped the GY401 - still same issue. I tried both the Futaba foam tape and Zeal gel. I thought maybe I was getting radio interference, but only the rudder channel has issues - the other channels are fine. I even moved the gyro to under the canopy so there is only one lead running back to the servo and I still have this issue. I also swapped my RX and antenna from my fury with no relief.
I have double-checked that my tail is constructed properly and linkage is smooth. I have dial-indicated my clutch shaft and it looks good. No notch bearings anywhere.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue for me - I'm kinda frustrated at this point. This is my first heli with a boom-mounted tail servo, and wouldn't you know it - I wind up with issues.
Thanks in advance,
Angelo
