View Full Version : Will a model saved from a 14MZ work in a 12Z?

I had someone send me a saved model from his 14MZ thinking that I could copy it into my 12Z. I saved the file to the CF card, but my 12Z does not recognize the file. It does not even show when I switch to the Mem Card list. All of the .mdl files are in a directory called "model" on the CF card. Am I just wishful thinking here? :( I figured that this should work. It's got to be something simple. :arggg: Thanks for the help.

Don't know what your doing wrong. But I have seen a lot of 14MZ model programs transferred to a 12Z. All they did was change the name of the model to 8 characters. I suggest using only letters and numbers.

Stupid question but are you sure you changed the name on the flash card... Not the model in you radio?

Yep. Model name changed on the flash card. :) The model name does not exist in the radio yet because I am trying to copy it from the flash card. :)

It's not the FILE name that needs to be <8, it's the MODEL name which is embedded in the file itself. You can name the file anything you want, e.g. Mxyzptlk.mdl, and the radio wouldn't give a hoot. You can try changing it in the file itself (with a binary editor), but there are some checksums to deal with ( do a search here or over at http://www.rcfan.com/forum/ ), so it's easier to just give someone the file and have them change the name for you. I'll be happy to help if you want, just post the file.

Well I'm really emabarrassed, now. You are correct. I misread or should I say misinterpreted the FAQ. That makes sense to have to rename the model while inside the 14Z. The file is at home so I can't post it here as yet. Thanks for the enlightenment. :noteworthy :banana :clappp
