Hi guys:
Bergen mounts for the Jewel RC generators are here!! I got my shipment on Friday and sold my first today to a local fellow. He was the 99th guy to join the club and do away with the constant battery drain issue while at the field. :)
I know I don't post much here on the Bergen forum but I just wanted to chime in and let you guys know they are in stock and get a feel for how many of you Bergen boys want the Jewels for you helis. I've ordered six motors for the generators as I sold my last one today and I'll be building them next week to get some stock back.
If you guys want to post a reply and let me know if you want one then I can order some more depending on the demand. If you haven't already seen some info on the Jewel RC generator please click on my homepage and gallery for pictures and more info on them.
Thanks and keep them flying!

Hey Raja, Can you post the price here? Also do you know the weight this adds? Is it a simple install? Is it plug and play? Is the mount easy and does it fit under the canopy?
Thanks,
Lou

Hey Lou:
Just click "website" below my post for all the details. Price of generator is $200, Bergen mount is $20, plus shipping and paypal fees. Also a couple of options available, see on front page of website.
Unit weights 3.7oz with no mount. Expect it to be around 5oz total with mount. You can probably install it realisticly in about an hour.
Does it fit under the canopy? I'm not sure. It doesn't on the Minair machines. Chris Bergen can probably answer this one..!

i went to get my mount today and got the pleasure of meeting raja and talking about lots of heli stuff, the mount and gen are very easy to install and all first class all the way. it took about 1.5 hours to install, nice job to both chris and raja definitly first class all the way.

A very nice product to have and use at the field :D . Never had a problem with mine and it even saved my camera ship two years ago at Rochester NY funfly when Gregg Alderman was helping me set it up and the battery pack came loose and fell off  . Gregg still had the power from the generator to land the Heli safely

Thanks for the picture Charger! There is your answer guys as far as "does it fit under the canopy". Mine on my Minair machines sticks out as well but its not a big deal and in fact I actually like seeing it there (cool) and its also a good conversation piece at the field! :D
You can click on my gallery below to see how it looks on my machines.

Raja,
What is the price for the "Dual Jewel for Camera Ships"? Sounds like a great way to get rid of that big 12v battery I have to have for the downlink transmitter, not to mention the associated charger.

I mounted Raja's generator on my Bergen EB. With the Bergen supplied mount it went on in about ten minutes. The biggest decision was where to mount the electronics. Once I found a nice home for everything and modified the canopy to fit the generator I was done. It's nice to know you always have power and don't have to worry about the number of flights you can get. With my DX7 and the generator I can fly all day and most of the next without charging anything.

The dual jewels go for $250. Bergen mounts are $20.

Welcome to the on-board power club -- Isn't it a great freedom from battery worries?! :D

Is it available for the nitro birds yet? I am not seeing how you are going to get around the start shaft issue with the nitro helis.

No I haven't really designed a mount for a nitro bird yet. In reality its available for anything, its just the mount that stops you from using it unless you are willing to make one. I've made mounts for the gassers in particular, but there are many many brands and models of helis out there and I don't yet have all the gassers covered.
As you know these things take time and effort, and I'm trying to do this and keep up with it besides my day job

As far as a nitro bird goes, could you make it so that the motor is driven off of a belt towards the front or rear of the starter shaft so that it doesn't interfere with starting?

I may be mistaken but isn't the start shaft undriven once the engine is running?

You guys might want to contact Greyeagle on Runryder. He has 3 of my jewels, two for gassers and the third he just installed on his Raptor and he loves it. He's a funny guy and if you look at his gallery he's got a star wars dude holding the jewel, pretty funny!
In any case he sent me a pm last night and said it was working great on the raptor and that he would send me a parts list. You can look at his gallery for some older pictures of when he was thinking about the install. I asked him for new pictures but don't have them yet.

The dual jewel puts out 11.3 Volts on the higher output side according to your website. Is that enough to power a blackwidow downlink?
rbort

Yes. I tested my black widow downlink and found and it works all the way down to 7.7v before the video shuts off due to insufficient voltage.
