Just wondering if anyone uses this with the stock helimax 25amp esc. I'm running an external parkbec. I'm just wondering if the esc is going to be suffiecient enough. 9 tooth pinion?

I have a Revo CP which is a Shogun clone and was wondering the same thing. It uses about 275 MM blades and I don't think the ESC would be overloaded but would love to know for sure.

I'm also wondering whats a safe headspeed for my idle up with the stock mx400 pro head and tail. And what type of pinion I need just to give it a bit more power than the stock 2580 kv.

Whoops, Had the wrong blade length in mind. Mine are 290 mm. :)

I have the Align 430L and 35Amp speed controller.... havent run it yet but i did find this handy calculator to get your headspeed in the ballpark

that helps, but I'm just wondering what a safe headspeed is for a stock mx400 pro.. 3000 kv? when should I expect to see parts fly from the heli?

the 25a ESC is ok if all you are doing is scale type flying with the 2580kv and the 14T pinion = 2400rpm range, 9T is too low a gear will only give you 15 to 1600rpm.
I am running a 430L, 11T pinion and 315 wood blades on 3S with a Phoenix 35 in governor mode and have recorded over 29 amps on hard climb outs and during mild acrobatic maneuvers, and average 12 to 15 amps in slow flight with amp spikes to 20.
Max "rated" head speed for wooden blades is 2400, many get away with 200 to 400 rpm higher with no problems.
Stock plastic MX400 pro center mast was designed for around 2400 rpm but have a bad reputation for self destructing with even the slightest blade impact, the aluminum is much stronger and safer IMHO.

The stock ones are metal now. If they weren't back in the day. I'm prolly pushing 2700 rpm now, but I'd like to push atleast 3000 - 3100kv. Guess I need to lose the woodies and get some cf 315's.
