View Full Version : Kora 15/14
Hi Guys
My lepton is in need of a new motor as the hyperion decided to
unwind itself in mid air :(
and it is going to take a little while before a new one comes back from warranty
so
my question is this motor " KORA 15/14" the best one to use on a
4S setup with then standard 24T pinion
cheers
Hung

If I can get off work early enough to get to the post office before they close then I should be able to pick mine up. Although I'll be running mine on 5s.

Got my 15-14 installed today. Installs pretty nicely with a 3mm screw in each corner. I went with a 20T pinion. This was the first time in a while where I was actually scared of a heli. Need to tach it and see what kind of H/S I'm getting. I think my tail belt may be a bit too tight as I was getting a lot of tail vibration. I thought that maybe my gyro gain was too high but at 20% it was still shaking. Took pictures of all three of the motors (Hacker, Hyperion, Kora) and I'll try to post them saturday

where did you get your pinion? and please post your h/s when convenient. thanks.

with the KV rating of that motor wouldn't it be better to use a 22t ot 23t pinion

If my numbers are right, on 5S a 20T should give me a max h/s of ~3050rpm. The 20T came with my heli (used). I believe the previous owner got it from Kovi. I honestly don't know what the proper pinion is on 5S but of my choices (26,24,20,19) I figured the 20 should be the closest. I may need a 21T but I'm sure the 20T will do fine until they're available.
I just realized that I should check my pinion mesh too. I used the plastic bag trick but I wonder if the screws and slots prevented me from getting the pinion close enough to the main gear. Suppose I'll have to check that out too tomorrow morning when I get home from work.

Here are the promised pictures comparing the popular motors. I was surprised that the Kora is a grey/black not the green as they appear on readyheli. I'm not complaining though as I wasn't looking forward to having a green motor.

Im running the 15-14 on 5s with 20t pinion. Everything stays cool and happy with my setup.

On the 20T with 5S I got 2880 rpm at 100% using the Jazz 80 in heli mode. With +/- 11 degrees of collective pitch this thing moves fast. I actually had a bit of a hard time trying to keep it at one altitude. Quick doesn't even seem to begin to describe this bird. Although you'll have to keep in mind I was having to fly the tail since my gyro still isn't setup. I need to make a new tail control rod with more adjustment to get this tail setup. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I'll get it dialed in tomorrow.

Got the tail setup and the bird trimmed and I'm very happy with this motor on 5s/20T @95% on Jazz with +/-10.5 degrees of collective. This thing makes my trex seem slow.

Any idea what your headspeed was while running 95%?
