Well, I don't have pics but I took the heli out to the field yesterday! (without canopy) Figured I'd hover just a bit and ensure all was looking good. First I have to say the Hyper 50 is an awesome engine to tune...very easy and work with in the rpm ranges as stated. Im running the JK Hyper 50 muffler (Hatori). I am still trying to figure out the 611 gyro so I kept it close to the ground. After 3 tanks hovering there are no signs of wear and the best part of all...there was absolutely no "wash machine" (vibration) showing in the fuel tank during hover. That is an absolute testiment to the way the clutch bolts to the engine output shaft with double tappered collars. So, for a newbie, this means it's hard to screw up runout when tightening the clutch to the engine. In my book, that's a big deal and only makes the experience better. I did have one blade tracking a bit higher than the other but did not mess with it as all I was trying to do was run fuel through the engine. So, on my fourth flight I took it into forward flight doing figure 8's... still struggling with the gyro, expo settings and all that other stuff. Used optitach and was running 1780 rpm in normal. The heli felt VERY quick on cyclic (awesome)..this may be due to the 3D paddles Im using vs stock. Applied 20% exponential. I was thrilled with how smooth it was even with one blade slightly off track. I have since fixed that problem on my bench and look forward to giving it a go next week. I still doubt I will have the canopy from the painter so flight will be limited to easier manuvers and no loops, rolls or inverted flight. I did find tonight that the cg of the blades were off 1/2 inch, not a big deal but I did the whole blade balance/cg on my Koll balancer. It took 1g tracking tape on the heavy blades cg and then the same 1g on the root of the light blade. That allowed me to balance with the original .06g strip of tape as stated in my first thread of this post.

Naz,

What blades did you decide to go with the RjX 600's? Bobby Smith is flying them and loves the feel and performance. Try the tip Rusty gave you on the 611 ours has been spot on since day one with his values, the big thing was the 18mm on the rudder servo horn.

Im runing the RJX Carbon 600's, the CG is spot on now, they flew just fine the way they were but being anal....(ha ha) I try to balance everything I can or at least to my abilities . I do have a pair of Radix blades coming as I really wanted to try those out.

Well,
It sounds like you're a happy camper, I figured once you got it in the air you would feel what we did the first time we flew ours, I should say I was allowed to take our machine up once, and since Steven likes his machines much more agressive than I do, I don't fly his "baby"

Great, can't wait to see how your canopy comes out, it's neat to see everyones paint schemes and tallent, I know you sent yours out to get done but it's still your design or input right...

talk to ya soon,

Clyde

Flew the bird again this weekend. Still breaking in the engine but all is great! I love the feel of the heli in forward flight it tracks very smooth with no pitching (still no canopy). I did some easy rolls and loops with very predictable characteristics. My belt is still a little tight and will adjust if needed after a couple gallons of fuel. I do love the fact that pulling the engine is easy...5-10 minute process and getting to most parts is a piece of cake. Getting to the glow plug can be challenging because of the throttle servo stick out in front of the plug. I can still get my glow plug flex driver on the plug and unscrew, but then use a piece of 5" fuel tubing to fit over the end of the plug and unscrew the rest of the way. Im going to look for a smaller throttle servo (Im running an overkill 9254) one with less depth, and that problem will be solved . Any recommendations? Still no Radix blades yet...they're on back order...and my canopy is still not done! :( Hope to have pics just as soon as it all arrives!

Nice build thread NAZ. The Hurrican is a nice machine. I smoked it over again at the Port Charlotte event last weekend. Steven is flying the crap out of his.

Well it's done. whew! Canopy looks fantastic..pics don't do it justice! After reviewing the pics, I should have whiped my finger prints off of it but oh well! Notice the factory "windscreen" lines in the canopy have all been filled, it's now a split windscreen painted. Aluminum to black fade to match the head and carbon fiber main frames. It looks fantastic! Next pics will be in the air...

Wow - That looks really really sharp!

First thing that I noticed when I pulled the canopy out of the box is that the "windshield" is way too big. Not enough area left over for paint. Yours is perfect.

I'll probably paint over portions of the "windshield" area to make it look more natural. And to get more color in the air to see.

Awesome paint job man!

Took the heli out today, fantastic day to fly!!! I finally took my camera and gave it to a guy whom I was helping out to take a pic! Well, the pic ain't too good but it's a pic none the less. This heli rocks. Got the 611 gyro figured out with all it's options, works flawlessly..big difference between it and my 401. I was most impressed with roll rates and the heli did not pitch up or down! all the "plank" guys were amazed with it's agility. The paint job sold the machine no doubt ;)

WHAT>>??? My thread is on the second page? That won't work. It needs to be on top! Just kidding...ok all, it's been a while but I've been flying the heli at least twice a week 2-4 tanks per day. So......? Everything is great!! I need advice on my gyro as I posted on another thread but it's all working fantastic! (need help with exact settings using a 611 and JR 9303..all settings on gyro and radio to compare with). The head had held up as have everything else. I had one misshap that really turned out just fine. I forgot to plug my pressure line on the muffler and then went inverted 50' in the air...engine died. The heli auto'ed great and landed with headspeed to spare (even with tight belt). After I cleaned my shorts I loosened the tail belt but may have loosened too much as Im hearing some clanking noise, so...need to tighten up a bit. Other than that I need to get a new flybar cage cause i overtightened an allen screw and striped it :( my fault. However the flybar cage has two tapped holes for a new allen screw so it's fine. I'll get with rusty..no issues. So what's with the new 3D heli they are going to be selling? That's the topic of the next thread IM going to create.... :) -looks awesome!!

Naz,
Your right !
The Xtreme 50 will be awesome, all new lay out. This is just what it's name stands for"3D" The Xtreme isn't to take the place of the Hurrican as the Hurrican has it's place and will continue to be sold and supported.
The Xtreme is for those of you who want that "on the edge of your seat controlled 3D flight" This bird has all the top features you'll find in a 90 size bird. Keep an eye on this one. More to come! Rusty
