I'm in the middle of setting up A twister 3d I got at Christmas. Most of it is progressing well butI'm having trouble setting up the CP. The instructions - well I can't call them garbage because there isn't any - they give no insight into how to set this thing up.
I think I'm almost there but the CP seems to work in reverse the swash plate moves up to decrease the rotor incidence. When I got it out the box (supposedly test flown) and connected up the controls it went from about -20 to -5. I've had to shorten the links from the servos to the swash plate to their minimum to get any kind of +ve incidence on the rotor blades
Keen to find out if anyone else has had same problems. Will be firing up the motor as soon as the weather clears to try my set up but not very confident.

Hi bill, yep I have a twister 3D and had to make a lot of adjustments to get a good set up. I took out the servos and re centred them and then set up the linkages to give me –3 to +8 on the collective as I’m just starting on heli’s.
Have a look at the great videos by Bob “Finless” (thanks Bob) on setting up a T Rex CCPM head as a good starting point.
Sorry I can’t be of more help.
You also might want to consider changing the main shaft for steel one. The one supplied is of very soft and hollow aluminium and will bend very easily in heavy arrival (read slight bad landing) which in my case also stripped the gears on two servos.
Good luck and keep posting with your progress.

I also got mine at Christmas as a first heli. It's been a steep learning curve but I've got there in the end. Took a lot of setting up and linkage adjustment. I watched all of Finless Bobs videos and they are very good at getting the info across. After having a faulty gyro replaced I was hovering straight away and I'm loving it

Thanks for the replies. I ran mine up at the weekend just to set up the speed controller. It looks like I've got the head set up just need to make a pitch guage to be sure. Had to take out one of the back CCPM servos to centre the arm. It ain't the easiest job to get the screws back in on that. Had to superglue the screw to the driver.
Discovered that the Tail Servo Ball link is too slack. Tried another link on the ball and it looks like the ball is undersize. Will need to find a replacement before I fly it, I'm pretty sure it will come off with a bit of vibration or a bumpy landing
The Kitchen worktop isn't the safest place to try it out either. Will have to wait for a calm day to get it outside and try a hover. Made up some training legs as well from a couple of 5mm Carbon Fibre rods and some golf practice balls. Total came to about £3.00

Thats a cheap training gear. I bought one of the £9 sets as I'm new and didn't think any better. Ordered another battery pack today as the one just isn't enough to feed my addiction.

I've read a bit about the soft main shaft so I have a steel one from midland helis which I'll pu in at some stage. Also thinking about the metal swash plate. But I thought I would persevere with the out of the box stuff and see how it flys before going into the upgrades.
Wish I was as confident about hovering so quick I try it on the simulator and can keep it steady for a short time then lose it.
keep up the posts and let me know how you get on. :glasses2:

I had an accident with mine in about the first two weeks as the gyro was faulty and I didn't know any better. This broke the main blades and indeed bent the main shaft and also stripped the tail gear which meshes with the main large gear.
You'll definately need the steel shaft and it's a doddle to change over. Also the little gear you will need as they strip very easily. You get a pack of 3 different gears for £3 so I bought 2 packs while I was on.
Had another 4 flights today I'm loving it. Also considerings the carbon bling and aluminium head but at £90 for the head thats another Twister heli so I'm gonna save and get myself a TRex or similar once my skills have improved

I've been having an email discussion with the distributors JPerkins as the ball on the Tail Servo arm is undersize. The only way to keep it on is to reverse it and force the small end of the link over the ball. This means the link sits on the shoulder between the ball and the arm and there's a bit of slack.
Currently they don't do the servoarm/ball as a spare and all the ones available at the LMS are too big which would require a different push rod assembly as the ball link is fixed to it.
JPerkins are taking it up with the chinese supplier to source spares for the servos, but I may need to change to the whole set up before I die of old age.

I keep looking at the ally and carbon bling but manage to resist so i might have to save the money for a dragonus II or a TREX. Depends if Dragonus spares become available in the UK

Managed to sort out the tail servo Ball Joint by cobbling up bits and pieces from the helpful local model shop. Weather has been miserable so still not flown it.
I agree with you may look around for a new kit with better spares availability in the UK.
Anyway, hopefully the weather will start to pick up and I can also find some time to finish off all the projects I've got lying about the garage.

Hi, My first post here so please be Gentle! :D
I have just bought a 'used' Twister 3D (hangar Queen)
I have tried setting it up with my SANWA RD6000 that I use for my Fixed wing and have been pulling my hair out with the CCPM Setup!!
I finally realised last night what the issue was, and this thread has confirmed it, the Collective works in the reverse sense of what you expect!
Now I have tried every servo/channel combination (6) and every Normal/reverse combination (8) and logged the results on a Spreadsheet.
I can either get the Cyclic working correctly with the Collective in Reverse, or the Collective working and the Cyclic 180 degs out.
What am I doing wrong? Is it just my Sanwa not being compatible?
It has an RCMart Receiver
Any Help most Appreciated!!!

Don't fret, you are not alone with this.
I thought I had it set up, pushed the stick forward the swashplate tilted forward, pushed the stick to the left the swahplate went to the left. thought everything was OK till I connected up the ESC and tried it with the rotor spinning and me hanging onto the bottom to keep it on the kitchen work top. It was only then that I noticed that when the swash plate tilts one way, e.g. forward the rotor disc actually tilts the other, e.g. backwards. I had the CCPM set up for the swash plate to work exactly as the manual for my radio suggested, but it actually moved the rotor disc in all the opposite directions. I'm sure once I'd got to here I left the CCPM setup alone and went back to the basic menu and reversed the three servo directions. I am using a HiTec set and the instructions were OK to follow, never tried a Sanwa.
Let me know how you've got on. Mine is ready for its fist (and probably last)flight, but the weather has not been kind. Not sure how many actual days flying I'll get with it and I'm pretty sure it won't handle much wind.

Still having fun with mine. Had my first major crash a couple of weeks ago. I new it was too windy but I had to fly it anyway lol. Wind just tossed it and I lost orientation. Two weeks waiting for parts from Midland helicopters. I did buy some second hand metal swash and mixer off ebay for £22 so I've fitted that. Had a quick blast last night and it's flying ok but needs the head setting up again

Sussed it!
Through my trial of all 48 combinations of Servo/Channel/Reversing I could get 2 out of 3 channels working in the correct sense the 3rd opposite.
I wondered if my telling it my CCPM mode was Elevator rear instead of forward as it should be and looking on my spreadsheet for the Collective/Roll correct, Pitch opposite plugs/setting, with a bit of twiddling, it seems to be correct!
Just need it to stop raining so that I can get outside & try it.
Just have to practice on my XRB indoors in the meantime...
Thanks for the suggestions, I knew it must work somehow...
