Do I need to purchase shims for OS 91 in tempest 3d

I have bought a tempest3d second hand. It is geared for an os 91. I have ordered the engine but do I need to purchase shims or anything special? This is the first ma heli I have had.

The engine should have shims with it. It all depends on what type of fuel you are using.

Do you have the collets to mount the cooling fan assembly to the engine??

I dont know about the collets. I will receive the heli on tuesday and will most definately be asking some questions.

I use cool power 30% - what does that decide about the shims? Been doing the raptor thing for a while and I am excited and somewhat intimidated about getting the tempest setup good.

I am actually ordering the engine Monday, so would you guys recomend the pumped or non-pumped hyper 90? I am going with a Hatori pipe-but which model suits the OS 90 best.

Also looks like I am breaking out the dial indicator!!

If you get the SZH+Pump, hmmm if u dont like the pump, you can remove the pump. So it's like 2 in 1 :mrgreen:

I believe I know what is throwing me off. The guy I am buying this heli from (who never got it put together!) was talking about using shims between the engine and mount to help with aligning the engine correctly.

ClayK - I believe your are talking about shims between the head and cylinder - Am I correct?

Get the regular SZ if your going OS. I personally don't reccomend the pumped version. The carb is different on the Pumped version, so there is more to it than removing the pump if it gives problems.
The shims for the head of the engine will come with the engine.
If the model is geared for 8.18 you should not need any shims for the motor mount. He should send the shims with the heli that were used when he mounted the motor. He also should include the collets for the engine.

With Cool Power 30% your probably going to have to add the additional shim that comes with the engine. This shim goes between the cylinder head and the cylinder liner.

Yes, I was talking about the shims for the head. There are shims for the engine to the engine mount, those should be part of the kit. I believe those shims are determined by your gear ratio.
