Hi:
NOOB flying an TREX 450SA needs advice from Sage! I bought a FUTABA 401 with a S9254 (package deal) and now realize the servo is going to be heavy and big compared to other's I see recommended like the S9650. Is this going to be a issue? Should I get something lighter or smaller?
:dontknow
Thanks in advance!!

Actually this set works really well together according to Futaba. Check the specs provided below. Plus this servo is actually a little smaller and lighter than the 9252 or 9250 that most people use on their tails, although it has lower torque. This servo will fit all your needs so you shouldn't need an upgrade for a loooong time. :D
I found this chart on Yahoo search, Enter: Dservo2
Click on the link and it will show a full color pic & chart with specs on all futaba digital servos like the chart below (only better!). Oh by the way, make sure to check out the build vids in Finless bobs helifreak tech room. (type into search at the main page). It's better if you install the gyro on the bottom side of the tail to avoid damage from blades when they break. Hope this helps! :glasses2:

I also do wonder about small servos with big speed...
Anyone knows about any *small* wonderboxes?
Those big blocks may be alright, but they simply don't work out, if you have a small heli that already does not really achieve the right CG but being always tail-heavy...
So, anyone having small ideas about big servos? Or was that the other way 'round? ;)

Daniel

The 9650 is the best bet between speed and size for a Trex.

For smaller you can use the Futaba S3154, which is a digital micro servo.
For super hold, the new best seems to be the JR DS3400G.

Okidok, so I stay with what I have... ;)
I'm currently using Waypoint W-092SH for the tail...
Speed/Force: 0.09s/60° with 1.3kg-cm/17oz-in @ 4,8V
Dimensions: 24.5x11.5x22.5mm/0.98x0.45x0.90in @ 9.4g/0.36oz
I only wonder whether you can use this servo with 6V as well...
So it would be even faster...
I tried once and it sounded... well... Let's say it worked ok beside making some strange noise when moved... ;)
Like some rusted, 100yrs old door whose hinges haven't been lubricated from the beginning...
I know I could simply try, but then again, I'm not one that wants to find out during flight that it doesn't work out... ;)
Cheers,
Daniel

Has anyone tried a KO PDS949 ICS on a tail? Will it work ok?
