I've got lots of bits lying around from my Walkera (spit) saga, including this motor/ESC combo (http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=134_136&products_id=4046).

After messing around on Realflight and watching some vids I think a foamy would be fun, but I don't feel like spending much on it. I've also got a spare Futaba 6EXH with a 146ip, and some Tower Pro 9G and 5G servos.

Looking for something small and nimble, that's able to hover.

it should work, even if it's heavy. You will need to find a prop adaptor though, that may be the hard part.. Do you know the size of the shaft?

The shaft measures 2.3mm, so that sounds pretty standard.

I clueless on which prop/gearbox/kit to choose though, is there a guide somewhere?

I'd start with a 10x4.5, and see if anything heats up. If all remains cool, try an 11x4.5.
No gearbox required unless it gets hot, however you have an outrunner type motor, so it should do fine as is.
find a 2.3mm prop adaptor and go.
I would reccomend something with a 36" wingspan and 8mm depron, or even the mini UltraStick for this combo with 2200mAh lipos.

Exactly what I needed, thanks a lot!

That motor is 4200kv that's way to high for a 3D machine .
Most run 900 to 1500kv with 10 to 18A esc...
And the RX is way to big! Your trying not to get over 10 to 18 oz. And thats for all up weight. Any motor used on most helicopters are turning a big main gear, with say,, 13T pinion. Most 3D airplanes don't run gear boxes..Some do ,, but most of them are cheap and using small brushed motors.
