Unhappy Tail blowout issues

I have a Gaui 200 V2 with a Futaba 520 and I followed all the setup recommendations for this gyro. It has performed flawlessly until I had a wreck a couple weeks ago. I rebuild it and checked it over thoroughly. Upon the initial spool up I had it at 3000rpm and every time I went to punch out the tail would blow out. When I spooled er up to 3500rpm the problem seems to have gone away. I checked belt tension, the tail servo, and made sure no teeth were missing on the belt. Everything checks out. What is weird is that it would never blow out at any given RPM prior to the crash and now it will always blow out at lower RPM's. Any ideas? Did I overlook something?

What tail servo are you using, and what gain are you running on the gyro? And when you go through the programming steps, is the gyro's setup still what you expect it to be?

Maybe check the pulley on the tail shaft, it could be slipping.

I am at work, ya know-making money so I can get more heli's ,so I will have to post my settings later tonight when I get home. I am running the JR DS290G on the tail. I still am at a loss why the tail will hold at higher RPM's when I punch it but at just 500 RPM less it will completely blow out?? I've never encountered this before. I have a DX7 and I want to say that the gain is at about 49 or so. Any higher and it wags something fierce!! Hmmm, I have to be honest that I never tried to reprogram it, I just checked that all linkages were at 90 degrees to the tail and started flying again. Have any of you ever had to re pragram a gyro after a crash?? I will mention that I did check the servo to ensure no stripped gears and it checked out. While I have your attention let me ask you this too. Is the Bobby Watts tail upgrade worth the dough??? Any noticable performance improvements??

I adjust travel adj so I can run higher gain (on tx) put gain at say 55 then back off of travel adj until it stops. Tail should be solid as a rock after that

I think negen has something there,
I had a minor crash and was having tail holding/wagging problems
I have a quark and a jr 290g servo, it was running perfect.
Looked and looked for broken parts couldn't find em, then I removed the tail shaft
the gear was sliping on the shaft, it was stripped.the gear was spinning the tail
but was slipping under high load. That could be your problem

Im running the v2 tail
no issues, I think alot of people run the v2 tail no problems
Cnc tail, with double slider, cnc links between the slider and grips
if you have that you should be fine.
I just read what you said about the bobby watts tail, its a sick tail but
not exactly necessary to achieve a solid tail

Rotor head, got a dumb question. I understand what you are saying, but on the GY520 Gyro the travel limits are set during the programing of the gyro. Is that when you adjust it or do you use the travel adjust in the Radio to achieve this?? I checked to see if the pulley was slipping and it is not. I do have the CNC V2 tail assembly. I do have a question about pulley preference though. Is the CNC tail shaft part # 203123 a good replacement for the stock Part# 203121 shaft?? I have both of these sitting on the shelf but never got around to swapping out the stock one for the CNC one. Would you highly recommend doing this? Heck it only takes a second, i'll swap out the stock one for the CNC anyhow and see what happens.

the only real difference between the two that I have found is the trueness of the pulley, adn shaft on the cnc one. (vibe related at that point). tail hold is the same given the same amount of teeth.

how far out is your ball on your tail servo, mines at 8mm

7.65 mm from center gear to center ball on tail servo. GY520 recommendation for small class heli is about 7.5mm. 7.65 is about the best I could do. Oh, and I counted the teeth on the stock and cnc tail shafts.
Stock part # 203121 is a 16 tooth
CNC part # 203123 is a 17 tooth
CURSES!!! The CNC tail part# 203122 would be the exact tooth count as the original=16T. So the CNC #203123 will be just a tad slower. Ya think it will be noticeable? What are you guys running?

The physical limits are set with the gyro whereas basically the quickness for lack of a better word is adj in travel adj. I don't really know how to explain it but I use the travel adj and gain to get the best combination

Rotor head, I hear ya. I looked it over and had a HUGE brain fart. I was out of RC heli for about a year and just got back in,sooo I kinda need to relearn radio programming and whatnot. I totally understand what you are saying and will make the adjustments in my radio. I'll let ya know how it goes. Thanks man!

I reprogrammed the gyro today and installed the carbon upgrade tail control rod. Re checked everything. She's flying on rails again! The carbon rod seems to have solved my wag issues too. Man it's just blows my mind how locked in this little heli is, flies like a much bigger heli!!
