View Full Version : Telebee Gyro Setup on Blade CP question
Hi
Looking on advice for setting up a Telebee Head Lock gyro on a Blade CP using seperates. I have just wired everything up and it looks like I am going to have to do quite a bit of transmitter setup to get the Telebee to work correctly. I can get the Telebee to set (blue light) and the tail motor ESC to arm with full left rudder. Then with neutral rudder the tail just spins, so I am guessing that I will need lots and lots of trim or sub-trim. Any detailed transmitter and gyro setup (I am using a Futaba 7CHP) would be appreciated.
Thanks!

the tail will normally spin at mid rudder. Only way to find out if it is working is to get it up in the air.

Check out the Finless video on the Telebee in the HDX300 video section.

Thanks. I will check it out later (46meg at dialup rates), much later.

hmmmmm... might be able to help you there. i have a 7C and a zoom hh gyro, subtrim and trim on a motorized tail makes no difference, however, you might want to set subtrim so that rudder trim is centered. make sure throttle stick is at lowest, and leave the sticks, just plug the batt in and wait for the 3 in 1 and the gyro to initiallize. set gyro to A 55, go from there, get it in the air, use subtrim to minimize drift or (usually overpowering) (i need to set mine to around -45 with dd tail). check tail wag, increase gain until tailwag is noticed. then change subtrim to accomodate change in gain that cause drift in the tail.

His videos are available on CD, there is a thread in the section.

Setting up a piezo gyro
=======================
You might want to take a look at this link with generic instructions about setting up HH gyros: http://www.natew.com/rcheli/frame_main.cgi/html.TailRotor.HH#why.behavior
While the gyro model and heli model may not be the same as yours, I think the theory of operation will be and hence the setup steps should be the same. Indeed, I think these instructions are probably valid for all the HH gyros that do not have on-board travel adjustments.
The summary points are:
1) In HH you should initially have 100% ATVs as this controls your piro rate, not your travel endpoints. Once your tail is all setup and holding, if you want more or less piro rate in either direction then you can adjust your rudder ATVs to achieve that outcome.
2) Since there is no endpoint control on the gyro, you have to rely on getting the right control arm radius to prevent binding. You may have to drill an extra hole in your servo arm at just the right position.
3) Once your rudder trim is set during flight testing in HH mode, with a good gyro
you shouldn't need to change it again.

Then there is this alternative: http://www.x400tuning.com/aligngyro.htm
I think this set of instructions is specifically for the Align/Telebee gyro and has a different point of view regarding the order of Tx and mechnical setup. Now you'll have to choose which one makes the most sense to you.

Just watched the Finless video after an overnight download. I went ahead and stuck a servo on the tail to check the gyro operation per the video. I'll stick the Blade on the the turntable tonight and fire up the motorized tail and see what happens.
Thanks for all the replys and links!
Was able to stick it on the turntable before work (delayed openings) and it seemed pretty good. I have some slight creep, which I will try to subtrim out later in the same manner as the Finless video. I think initially setting rudder subtrims with a servo got me pretty close prior to hooking up the tail motor. I also threw in some Pmix on the throttle to rudder to prevent the tail motor from spinning at zero throttle.
Its time to clean out some space in the garage and check it out in a hover.
Thanks for the advice and links. They helped alot!

no!!! do not use Pmixes as it will of throw the hh gyro. what you should do i suggest is first set the gain to 50, hover it, trim out the tail with subtrim until it holds, up the gain until the tail wag, bak off abit, readjust subtrim to hold the tail if need be. and once you've got that settled, the tail shouldn't spin at zero throttle.
