I'm on my second stock motor. First one burned up. I was running the heli up while holding it over my head and at a high rpm I felt a fast vibration and the motor would slow down silghtly. This would happen also[slight slowing of the motor] while flying it also, but would never see a vibration as it was too high a frequency. I pulled the tail boom apart and found lots of carbon dust inside. I pulled out the shaft and rolled it on a table and saw it had quite a warp in it. I'm sure that this vibration sapped alot of power and over heated the motor as I was very conservative about pitch/ throttle . I am very sure this has been my problem of short engine runs and and a ruined engine. Best part is I called EvoFlight and they're sending me new parts for free! If anyone is having short run times ,,super hot motors etc and know the collective and throttle mix is good,,I would check this out as I have been scratching my head about this problem for awhile.

The horiginal motor is a Speed 400 6,0V or 7,2V?

Upon further investigation I found that 2 out of three bearings were seized from carbon dust in the tail boom. I thought one was a sealed bearing but after cleaning it up it was sealed alright,,with carbon fiber powder!!! Between the warped shaft and the clogged bearings that would no longer spin, no wonder my heli had problems. It may be a good idea to check the tail boom bearings from time to time for dust clogging them.
On the other forum someone recommends replacing those with good quality sealed bearings to eliminate that problem. Also a local buddy has had problems with his tail grip bearings burning up.

Is this bearing the one thats inside the boom? i remember hearing about a 3rd bearing right in the middle of the boom. i have never taken it apart to see what it looks like. must be more like a bushing.

The heli comes with a bushing in the center of the tail boom. Why, I can't imagine. They seem to eat up the drive shaft very quickly. But if you buy a replacement tail boom, it comes with a bearing.

mINE WAS NOT A BUSHING BUT A BEARING. ALSO THE FACTORY MAKES IMPROVED OUTPUT GEARS AT THE TAIL. I'M WAITING ON MINE NOW

Hey Rob,
i took apart my boom and noticed that i too have a bearing in the middle. I thought it was a bushing till now. Maybe EF started using bearings on the kit.

at first I thought it was a bushing till I washed it out with some WD40 and THEN I could s through it with a bright light behind it an saw the bearings

Yeah, at some point they started using a bearing instead. Some come with a bearing now, while some still have a bushing. I think when they started using the plastic purple tail gear they may have switched to the bearing.

replaced my drive shaft and boom and out of curiosity pushed out the bushing i n the center of the boom, it was a brass bushing and it wore out my drive shaft, it put a big groove in it...
on that subject i heard of an alluminium drive shaft and tail gear is this a myth or can someone provide a link....
thanks all

FYI: All replacement tail booms come with a ball bearing in the center. I haven't heard about an aluminum drive shaft. Would be curious to know more about it...

I saw a aluminum drive shaft on the web but can't remember where. If I think of it I'll let you all know
