OK, I've had this Raptor 50 for a bit over a year. Bought it off E-bay with lots of bling, never seen fuel and I got caught up in my Trex's and let it sit. Now I've got it on the bench and wanna get 'er flying..
What's a good pitch range (both collective and cyclic) to shoot for? I'm still in the middle of tearing the entire heli apart to ensure it's all done right (I didn't assemble it after all. :) ) but anticipate being ready to start tweaking tonight..
Any specific things I should be aware of when I set it up?? I don't fly 3D (yet) but like to set 'em up ready to rock right outta the box.
Thx!

+-10 pitch
6-7 for cyclic
Just go through the build according to raptortechnique and everything should be fine. Be meticulous about the starter shaft/pinion/clutch bell. I've stripped out a start shaft and had a clutch bell misaligned during one tear down/rebuild.
Verify the headblock has no wiggle and may want to just replace the dampeners, it's cheap.
If I think of anything else, I'll edit and add.

Head dampeners look a little shabby so was gonna replace 'em anyways.. Gotta run out and get a dial indicator/stand to check the clutch etc for runout...
I'm pretty sure this thing was built and blinged and never flown. There is ZERO nitro slime in or on the thing, but since I don't know how it was assembled, it's gonna get completely overhauled and anything "odd" will be replaced.

Sitting for over a year? Get that Raptor in the air... I love all the smoke and noise these make. Its hard to beat the look on people's faces the first time they see one of the Nitros spooling up :D
+-10 here too.... but I was thinking about trying a little more pitch once I get a metal head.

Believe me, I'm gonna get it in the air ASAP... It's about 90% reassembled and I'm slowly dressing all the wires down and getting it "pretty". I've told the wife don't expect me to leave the kitchen table on Saturday 'cuz I'm going to work on it all day long. :)

That's the plan.. Gotta replace the Rx pack with a 2S LiPo/regulator setup and do some final tweaking before I start breaking in the engine.
What's the best way to break in an OS .50 Hyper? Idle the 1st tank pretty rich then hover 2-3 tanks rich then tune from there???

Pretty much, except I dont bother with the idleing part, I just go 3 turns and lean till it will get off the ground the hover around a tank, then do it again a little leaner trying to get the backplate warm but not hot, then start flying around. As the ring seats it will run cooler for a given needle setting, when it stablilizes, go for it.

Cool.. LHS doesn't have any regulators so I'm just gonna replace the Rx pack with another NiCd or NiMh for now... Either that or wait 3-4 days to get a regulator from an online shop.
Now I just gotta figure out the throttle jockey...
