The Trex 600XL is no good for the E550 or 620 as it's too high a kv. The stock motor for the E550 is 1100kv which gives about 1980rpm on the supplied 10T pinion, with the 600XL which is 1650kv the 10T pinion would give a headspeed around 2970 which means you would have to run a very low throttle setting, this is very hard on the esc and motor. You can't fit smaller pinions as you wouldn't have room to fit the teeth and still have enough wall thickness on the pinion.

I took delivery of my E550 on Monday and ordered a Century 600 Plus motor, this is a Z-power Z-30A-1100 which is recommended for 6S setups on the E550, it's specs look identical to TT's motor too.

where can i get the Century 600 Plus motor.

and from the way you wrote your response you made it sound like the E550 comes with a motor.

Sorry, I used the term 'stock motor' as it's the one that Thunder Tiger will be selling specifically for the E550, I didn't mean to make anyone believe it was included in the kit.

You can get the Century 600 Plus motor from http://www.centuryheli.com/products/elec_motor/elec_motor.html?currentid=345 although there are Century dealers accros the US who should stock it. The Thunder Tiger motor is now in stock in the UK so this should also be available in the US.

Seems to me that it would be possible to use the Trex 1620Kv motor in the e550. The Trex has a gear ratio of 17:1 while the e550 uses 11:1. Why not run the motor with a 4S pack (instead of the 6s)? Consider that the e550 also runs smaller blades (550mm as opposed to 600mm on the rex) and the all-up weight will be less with a 4s pack, so I don't think you're going to have issues overloading the motor. Granted it may not be as punchy, but it should work fine.

<<<EDIT>>>

Oops, on second thought, scrap that. It won't work very well because the e550 will still be way too heavy even with the lighter battery pack. I was doing a back of the envelope calculation with 3.5 POUNDS when it should have been 3.5 KILOS. Sorry! Looks like you'll need a 700 - 1000 Kv motor...and a pretty beefy one at that (6s+ pack for power).

If you were to try to fly it on a 4S setup, either you'd have to be happy to barely hover or you'd have to run H U G E current draw :)

The sweet spot for 6S setups seems to be around the 1100kv mark. The main problem I have is that my FP Evo20 4900 packs that I use in my Trex 600 don't fit, FP do a specific 4900 6S pack for the E550 which is £200 in the UK, same price as my Trex 600 packs :( The slightly good news is that my 3700 6S packs from my Swift fit but I would think flights are going to be in the 4-5 minutes range but at least I will know if its worth spending out to get the 4900's or consider going up to 8 or 10S.
