maybe this one?

And you guys thought I was crazy with my little Sabre flying with good old fashion duct tape. My little Sabre blades probably only spin 10 times per minute, while that freaken birds wings probably flap at 10,000 RPM and are made of metal spikes, unlike the Sabre the Q-Tip material used for the blades.
The reason the alarm went off is because it was the carbon monoxide detector. These guys were on a suicide mission!!!!
And, as I remember it correctly, when my wife bought me the Sabre EF for Christmas, she asked for an indoor heli at Hobby People, and thats what they sold her... Little did she know it would pursue me on an insane quest into the Heli world and eventually after two whole long weeks in the sport, I upgraded to the Trex!!!!!!!!

dear ******,
the guy flying the raptor indoors is absolutely crazy. no doubt abt it. but i dont think him being crazy would help you if u get hurt by flying a duct-taped helicopter (even if it is a Sabre). I have gotten hurt by my Hummingbird - after i cut the throttle - and still i had bled a few drops.
a bad idea is a bad idea is a bad idea. even if there are worse ideas - a bad idea still is.

k

I feel anxious when I see someone straighten a flybar, this is pretty out there.
I really hope this was an isolated incident and you have properly repaired this machine.

I was thinking of even doing a video called, "DUCK TAPING YOUR HELI 101"... :smokin:
Maybe I can even post it up with the Finless Videos!!! :)))

uh, you are kidding right?
there is absolutely no possible way that we will condone the duct tape repair, someone may actually try it and get injured.
We are here to help, not get people killed or injured in any way.

Ohhh... Get hurt??? A flying piece of Duck Tape can't hurt that much can it? :dontknow

It's not the tape I have issue with, it's the half-assed attempt to repair part of the rotating assembly, in specific the main rotor grip that was broken.

HeliFreak will not support the actions of this user, in whole or in part.
Taping a broken rotating part is NOT an acceptable repair in any situation involving a Heli.

Sorry Wayne if I offended the forum in any way with these post. It was for humor while I waited to get my parts for my Trex from Hong Kong. I didn't intead for anybody to actually take all this seriously. Even when I did fly the Sabre with the Duct Tape, it was only for a few seconds, and I never did it again as I was worried that a blade may fly off and hurt eitherr my wife or I.
Hopefully, this hobby in heli's if not only all about flying, but humor and fun, and of course with safety in mind.
I"m only been in this hobby since December 25th, so I hope those of this sport are good sports as well..
Peace!!!

something like this in a humourous light, and identified as such is one thing, assessing and determining risk and consequence shows at least there is an amount of recognition for the danger inherent in the action.
Some may see this as acceptable simply because they can find logic in it, or take the amount of damage even a small machine can do to person or property can do for granted.
People have DIED, been seriously injured or suffered an amputation by an R/C helicopter. My opinion is that something that can seriously hurt or kill you is not a toy.
We admins have to help convey safety first, knowledge and learning second.
I hope you understand my postition.

I totally understand your position, and its good moved it to the Helicopter Safety message. As I progress in this hobby, I'm sure I'll learn more about stuff and all the safety issues involved.
Right now I'm concerned about Lipo fires and bought a ammo can. But have yet to drill holes in it yet. I thinking of getting a lipo sack instead.

get a concrete cap block, an old metal baking pan, and place batteries in the pan on top of the block for charging.
concrete is 'still' fireproof.

Sounds goood and proven.
What do you think about Lipo Sacks? I live in an apartment and the safest place for me to charge the lipo is right next to the oven.

no opinion, I've never used one or held one.
Will they contain the smoke too? $1 or so will get you a paver block from the local home improvement place, and you can probably 'find' an old baking pan in the cupboard.

My little Sabre blades probably only spin 10 times per minute
So you're guessing it takes somewhere around 6 seconds for your blades to make 1 rev? I'm not familiar with the Sabre, but I'll bet it's head speed is similar to the 90 nitro bird. Generally speaking smaller helis have higher head speeds.

OMG Poor helifreaks :WOW
You guys in America aren't probably flooded with these crappy chinese FP machines. Here in the Netherlands we are and they suck. RPM on the head is probably about 1200 max, so no dangers involved. I even think the ducttape making this a safer heli, seriously.
Its a common fix here to use some CA and a bit of normal tape. These heli's almost can't be balanced because of the way the rotorhead is built.
******, your solution will work but ONLY IN THESE LITTLE FP MACHINES. I guess you already knew that

******,
Either stop pulling our leg, turn your brain on or start to learn to understand what you're using...
Heli's are flying lawnmowers without safety-shroud.
Though looking funny on first glance, on (the informed...) second glance you'll find that this is very true, down to the last consequence.
Maybe you don't understand now.
And you will continue the way you did until now.
Acting like it was *you* that invented heli-flying, all the other complaining tarts are just bigmouthed sissies...
But I'm very sure, after your first serious injury like cutting veins or damaging eyes, you'll be one of those guys that'll sue the manufacturer and the LHS for selling such a dangerous machine as a toy and recommend to fly it indoors...
Let me assure you:
You won't be getting any sympathy from my side when you're lying on the doctor's table.
Only your wife will get a sad thought when she needs to treat your wounds...
Or when she's laying a rose together with the kids in front of your tombstone...
These are situations where I really regret my wishes for the prices to tumble:
It enables people like you to bring grief over others...
And then again, cheap prices and all... If one uses duct-tape because he can't afford a spare-part that's on a two-digit price... Why did you start to fly heli anyway? You wouldn't drive a Ferrari if you couldn't afford the fuel...
I don't wish you anything bad, on the contrary, but simply: Goodbye, live well and stay away from me...
Sad cheers from Daniel

Hey Danyboy,
Thats why I married my wife, she's a NURSE... Anything goes wrong, and she'll be there to bring me back to life... If she can bring those old folks in the Critical Care Unit back to life, then I'm sure she can revive this 30ish year old if my little Sabre breaks my thumb...
Seems like the Swizerland guy knows about this micro machine heliz. I think that piece I broke off cost like .25 cents. It was too late in the evening to go to Hobby People thats actually a walking distance from my apartment to buy the replacement part. Duct tape was the joke of the moment. 30 second of fun in the sun. At least for me and my house...
Peace...

Sorry to disagree. This is dangerous even on a small bird. Spend some time in an Emergency Room and you will be amazed how easy it is to do permanent damage to your body. The problem with condoning this at all is that someone less knowledgable may read it, do the same, and get hurt.
Lets lighten up on ****** though. It was in the spirit of fun and I think he realizes this was not a stellar idea. Respect is running a little short here!

Not if she's the one with a blade sticking out of her forehead!
In reality, the notion that this thing will kill you reminds me of the Monty Python bit in which they have to cut down the mightiest redwood in the forest with a herring.
But I have no doubt it could cause injury. And if you're unlucky enough, it could permanently destroy an eye or something.
Anything bigger, and the consequences go up - quickly.
