i recently purchased a dx-7 radio for use with a future model; also picked up a ar6000 receiver to use in my cpp so i can begin using some of the features of the dx7. couple questions:
i was able to get the receiver binded to the transmitter using the charging jack and the little plug. The manual says to re-bind after the model / radio is fully setup. the question is that since the heli does not use the switch and charging jack (battery goes through the 3 in 1), i assume i just need to connect the receiver to the switch / charging jack to rebind. is that correct? or is there some other way to bind? that seems a little inconvenient if i have to rebind everytime i change a setting.
other question - the eflite receiver has the channels numbered 1,2,3,4,5,6 but the ar6000 receiver has receiver channels named throttle, aieleron, rudder, gear, etc.. i labeled all my cables before unplugging from the eflite receiver but i am not sure what the equivalent channels are in the ar6000. i assumed starting from the batter is 1 then work my up up from there but when i plugged everything in, the controls were not being moved by the appropriate stick on the transmitter.
Yes, i am fairly new to helis. Thanks for you kind advice.

On the CCP Rx, Ch 1 and 6 will be aileron and pitch (Doesn't matter which is which 'cuz you can change the servo direction/AFR values in the new Tx to make it all work. You CAN'T change 'em around with the stock Tx) Ch2 is elevator, Ch3 is throttle, Ch4 is TR/gyro and Ch5 will be gyro gain - usually the "gear" channel

I recently got a Trex 450 with a DX7 and after building the 450 I set my BCPP up with the DX7. I am going to tell you what I did. If you already know this stuff, I apologize, but if you do not I think this information will help to understand how to set up your BCP with the DX7.
Honestly the first thing I would do is download Bob’s 2 video’s for setting up CCPM. These are for the Trex but the exact same concept works for the BCP. They are both 120 degree swash plates with Aileron, Elevator, and Pitch servo’s. On the BCP, the Right rear servo is the Aileron, the Left rear servo is the Pitch, and the forward servo is the elevator servo.
The video links are in this topic: http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=12455
The two CCPM video’s are here
Vid 1: http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex450&filename=CCPM_Part_1.wmv
Vid 2: http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex450&filename=CCPM_Part_2.wmv
What you will learn that is important to you is the [Swash Mix] menu. Each of the Swash Mix can be set up different ways with reversing some servo’s. I set mine up so I have to reverse my Aileron servo with the below [Swash Mix].
For me I have
Aile to +60
Elev to –60
Pit to –38 (completely different for each person depending on the distance your Swashplate is from the top of the shaft and from different servo’s)
I have Rudder (channel 4) and Aileron (channel 2) servo’s reversed in the [Reversing SW] menu.
What I would next suggest to do next is to set up you [Swash Mix] correctly then set up your servo arms to be at 90 deg to the Swash (explained in the video’s). I learned from these forums that when you set up the servo arms set them up so the Swashplate is exactly ˝ inch from the top of the main shaft. From there you can get the most movement up and down the shaft with out hearing your servo’s humm. I have found that I can only get full range of +11 deg to –11 deg on the blades only if I have the Swashplate 1/2 inch from the top of the shaft.
Once you have your Swash set up correctly everything else should go smoothly.
If you had any glitching problems with your stock set up, you will really love the DX7. I have not had any glitching since I have the DX7 set up with my BCPP.
Don’t forget to set your Rudder servo to Reverse. I forgot to do this and was knocking my head against the wall for a while trying to figure out what was wrong.
Hopefully I did not confuse you.
Good luck.

Slick, that is exactly what i needed. Been playing around and kind of figured out the 120 degree swash plate but with your info and the videos, i beleive i will be set. i watched a couple other videos from Bob and these are top notch videos. thanks again for the very helpful info.

The stock E-Flite receiver uses Futaba style channels. The spektrum uses JR style channels. you can use the conversion below to get everything in the correct channel.
Channel 1 on E-Flite is Aileron = Channel 2 on JR
Channel 2 on E-Flite is Elevator = Channel 3 on JR
Channel 3 on E-Flite is Throttle = Channel 1 on JR
Channel 4 on E-Flite is Rudder = Channel 4 on JR
Channel 5 on E-Flite is Gyro = Channel 5 ( Gear) on JR
Channel 6 on E-Flite is Pitch = Channel 6 ( Aux1) on JR
So its just the first 3 that are switched around.
Hope this helps.

thanks all. i finally got it all hooked up last night and took it out for a little hovering. so far so good. it does seem smoother although i have done much other than follow some general guidelines as for settings. not quite as twitchy as before (although i only have about 5 packs through it). did make a few minor adjustments to the throttle curve and pitch curve. i like this radio. now on to watch some more video and play on the sim.

SWEET!! Good job, I know how good it felt to get the set up far enough along to try the first hover.
Good Luck.

I asssume a gyro would drop in identically as well?

I am new the Heli world and am sooooooo hooked. I currently have a CX2 and am getting a CPP and then when really good will get the 450SE. I would like to consolidate all radios into the DX7. For a newbie quesiton which DX7 model is the one that will work with the CX2 and CPP and I know will work with the 450?
Thanks

Your CX2 will work with the DX7. You will need to add a ar6000 or a ar6100 to the CPP to work with the DX7.

Slick,
I wish I had seen your DX7 settings a few days ago. I did a search for DX7 with CP pro and found a whole bunch with similar setups and none worked for me. I played with it long enough to get a setup that is nearly identical yours with the swash and servo reversing settings. I guess the good news is though that I learned a lot more about the radio and swash by playing.
