I'm a Logo newby and I'd like opinions on conversion to LiPos (or A123s) please...

My Logo 10, that I just bought in great used condition, has been run on 12-cell 2400SCR NiCds and 13-cell GP3300 NiMH packs. It has a Kontronic 600-18 motor and Schulze 18.46K ESC. I have 13T, 14T and 15T pinions, with the 15T currently installed. It also has 515 MS Composite blades.

I figured I would continue to use those packs for now while I feel out the heli - flew the first time this weekend for 5 flights - hovering and FF only. Great Heli smooth and easy to fly. I am not a 3D flyer, maybe I'll do a roll or loop, but not planning much else other than FFF/circuits really.

The challenge here of course is whether to stick with this 4S motor/ESC or re-power with something like a Z30-1100 and a CC 45HV and go to 6S. I'd prefer not to spend all the money now, but if I am going to buy the LiPos I'd also hate to waste the money.

So...for those of you flying 4S setups, what packs (and motor/pinion) are you using and how happy are you with the results? If someone has A123 pack experience running 5S (or maybe 6S) I'd sure appreciate those too!

Thanks,
Bill

I have a Logo 10 with same motor, but using a CC60 esc on 4 cell lipos. I was doing forward flight, but no 3d. It seemed to do everything I wanted. Not sure about bogging, I was running the 13T pinion. I was running 4S2P 4400mah pack and getting 8 minutes. The motor threw a magnet, so I have a new 600-17 motor on the way. I am in the middle of changing it over to the Logo 14 gears for the tail, but I don't have any numbers yet. I will be running the Logo 14 138T main gear with a 12T pinion. I couldn't get a 10T pinion, not in stock where I bought the parts. When I get the new motor and everything back together I can let you know how it is.

Thanks Terry,

I do wonder if that 15T pinion is to high. Do you recall the headspeed you were getting on 13T w/ 4S and the 600-18?

Thanks, Bill

I never put a tach on it to find actual headspeed, but the calculation was approximately 1800 rpms. I did ff and circuits and was quite happy with the performance. By changing to the Logo 14 tail, the 600-17 motor, and gears with a 12T pinion the calculation is almost 2100 rpms. It will be interesting to see the difference when everything gets back together.
