Good evening all, got a quick question. What holds the tail rotor input gear to the tail rotor drive shaft, Also same question for output gear? Are they just a press fit or what? I need to take up some slop or end-play in drive shaft of mine Thanks Ron

yeah, press fit. you could add a dab of glue before pressing in to keep it from moving. mine has also moved a little and caused the end of the shaft to rub on the output gear sleeve.

Ron,
i know some of these aftermarket gears such as the ultem have a tiny alen screw that holds it in place. Would have been nice to have that on the stock setup.
You can modify the stock gears to have that setup. Just drill and tap. You could do it to the smaller output gear as well, but it would mean drilling and tapping between teeth, and removing a bit of material from the gear. I find the free floating input gear works pretty well though.
I haven't had any problem with my tail gears since I quit landing in the grass. My main problem has been pilot error, and not pinning the tail case and the tailboom into the helicopter (screws which physically connect the tail case to the tailboom, and the tailboom to the front tailboom clamp!!)
