Hello,
I'm brand new to the list so I hope that some long-time R/C experts on this forum can give me some help and guidance...
I just received a used, but well maintained T-Rex package (heli, radio, all electronics, etc.) One of the items I received was a Thunder Tiger Balancer for LiPo batteries. I don't have any idea how I'm supposed to use this, although I have done a little reading on-line about it. Here are my questions:
1. Do I use this in conjunction with a LiPo charger while the battery is charging?
2. Do I charge the battery and then plug that battery into the balancer to balance the cell voltage as a separate process after charging?
3. Does the balancer work on it's own or does it need an external power source? I don't see anywhere that it would take an AC power supply.
3. My son has an E-flight Blade CX2 that came with a balance charger for the small 7.4v batteries. The Thunder-Tiger balancer has inputs for 2-3cell batteries, but the input plug is different than the small 7.2v E-flight batteries that we have... The batteries that came with the T-Rex are 11.1v 2100mah and have a bigger plug. I guess my question here is what type of charger is recommended for these larger size/capacity batteries. Is there a lot of difference in the quality/cost of LiPo chargers? Is there any "standard" which most folks have and regard as a very good quality charger?
4. Lastly, in my reading on LiPo batteries, when charging, is it important to remove the battery as soon as it is charged or will the charger have a cut-off and stop charging. Seems like there is a lot of discussion with fire-risk for LiPos and I am still not clear on whether you need to watch the battery the entire time it is being charged and remove it immediately when done.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
