View Full Version : G3.5 like flying a real heli???
I've been trying for two weeks just to hover. Slightest movements need counter movements. Any time I move the stick its already too much and I need to counter the last move. I can barely keep it on the runway. This can't possibily be like flying a real heli? Is it? If so I'am doomed. I hope to buy the real thing in the spring. I was hoping for a T rex but with the high cost I don't know. Perhaps something half the price to start on.

Stay on the sim a few months... seriously. Also try hovering a larger scale. Notice I said hover not fly. :smokin:

Yeah its pretty darn close to the real thing. After a while it will get easier, trust me. Learn to make very small movements at a time while hovering, eventually you'll begin to anticipate which way the heli is going to go so that you can correct it slightly before it happens. If you make adjustments too late its way too hard to keep it steady. This may sound kind of confusing but soon enough it will just "click".
Basically, just practice practice practice practice...and then practice some more!

Yeah it's close, usually I say the sim is -easier- than the real thing...depending on which heli you are flying and how much wind you crank up...
Practice... :)

It's no where near close
1) My flying field doesn't have a sofa and a TV
2) The SIM isn't linked to my bank account
3 As for the wind - depends on what dinner was served

The visual perspective is a whole lot better in the real thing, the sim loses a lot of the slight movements of the heli, and the next thing you know, you're in thr dirt and you're wondering what happened. The more you fly the sim, the easier it is and the better you get. Don't give up! :glasses2:

What frame rate are you getting? If you don't know, what PC specs (cpu, cpu speed, RAM and graphics card) ? If your PC or graphics card are underpowered then the update rate will below 30fps and helis can become unflyable.
If your PC is OK then you are simply discovering what thousands of others have before you, flying a heli is HARD. However the good news is that with patience and dedication you will improve and luckily, crashes on the sim are free. :D

Don't get frustrated! I was there too.
Yes - check your framerate with the "1" info window. Anything under about 22 FPS is just not playable, IMHO.
Anything over 30 FPS is sweet.
Make sure the WIND is set to zero!
Start with a BIG heli! Big helis give you more reaction time and are easier to learn. The 'hover trainer' in G3.5 is more difficult than freestyle with a larger heli.
Very small stick movements!
Learn to anticipate the helis natural movements and be on the correction before it happens! Sounds tricky, but once you start predicting, you're hover will go to the next level of stability.

Also note:
The different "airports" (backgrounds) will affect the framerate!! Pick a high-framerate background - I like Sod Farm.
Learn to 'drive the tail' early. Keep the tail toward you at all times while you are learning.
Most helis will not hover perfectly level. Its natural to have a slight tilt to the right in a perfect hover.
