View Full Version : What is the final say on the Vigor auto hub?

Well, it finally happened to me. My auto hub froze up, after inspection, I found that one of the needle bearings got sideways a bit and locked it up solid. Was quite a chore to get it off.

Anyway, I had to order a new one, and I am wondering what is the best way to keep it from locking again. I have heard hints ad rumors of this with the 90 engines, but I don't ever remember a good answer.

Oh well, it was still cheaper than a new crown gear!

Use a hardened main shaft (i use the scott gray mains) and keep the auto hub bearing well lubricated.

I had this happen when I was running the OS 90. I never liked that engine. It semeed to vibrate a lot.
I have not had the problem since switching to the YS.

Yeah, that OS has caused me troubles from the get-go.

I had a hardend shaft(not Scott Gray) and it locked up on me anyway! I switched the shaft and oneway. Everytime I got done flying I would add some drops of tri-flow to it before the next time I went up.. Once I forgot to do this before I flew and it locked up again but not as bad. what the hell. is this only with 90's? I too have an Os(c-spec) in my vigor. How does CY keep his from locking up?

curtis uses older hubs from vigor standards. I would hope that JR is going to fix this soon.

Are you referring to OS 90 hyperhead???

I did have a Hyper Head on that engine.
It didn't help with the vibration.

The vibration issue with the OS is pretty much across the board. Only improvement I was ever able to see was with the Viperhead installation. I have a single Viperhead on one and the dual on another and, quite honestly, that was the only improvement I ever saw, but that, in itself was a significant one.

On the lock-up with the auto hub, I have had several problems with my Voyager 50's and the one thing that I have started doing is, on a regular basis, pulling the hubs apart, cleaning them, then re-lubricating them with "white grease." On my Vigors, I have yet to experience the problem, however I know it exists...kinda' like the tail rotor gearbox separation....I just take folks word for it and put the metal ones on.
