Well, I have had to reinstall 3.0 and 3.5 a few times, this time it launches, I can hear and control it but the dang thing shows no video!! Just looking at the desktop......

Any one have any ideas?

I heard that thing is video intensive... What video card are you running?

I also did some looking around and apparently it is not friendly with ATI video cards. Seeing that I am an ATI kinda guy I need to do a little more research before I buy.

Check here for compatibility http://www.knifeedge.com/rfvc_compatibility.php

Windows?

Getting ready to re-install, I right-clicked on the it on the taskbar and clicked maximize and it popped up.
That being said, the way I shut it down last was right-clicking it on the taskbar and clicking close.
I have never closed it that way before, that must have caused that issue.

And Dog, if it was a windows problem, G3 wouldn't be the only program that does this!!

Also, G3 is the only program that has ever crashed and required un-installation then re-installation just because my puter went into standby...... :dontknow

This tells me that G3 is not completely windows compliant :dontknow

My friend Dog, I will admit that apple computers may be better in many ways, but apple shot it'self in the foot many years ago when the Apple vs PC debate began.
Apple was significantly more expensive and you could only buy apple hardware and not much software (in comparison to PC) existed. On the other hand, IBM allowed (or licensed, dont know) ANYONE to make the hardware and software. You were not stuck buying IBM hardware!

Yes, I have cursed windows while installing Plug and Pray hardware, while it was in its infancy. These days, I think it works pretty well.
I would still bet that more software exists for the PC than for the Crapple.

Had Crapple not made this HUGE tactical error, maybe we would all be using their calculators controlled by a mouse :arggg:

Debian sit-Stay............. Good dog!!

PC vs Apple : Winner = PC

VHS vs Beta : Winner = VHS

BlueRay vs HD DVD : Winner = to be determined

Who do you think will win?

Windows is just sad dude... really. Accept it and move on. And as always.. Apple supports BluRay and HD-DVD now/already/today so I could care less ;) Vista was a "piss poor" attempt at catching up. In the last 5 year Microsoft has been STAGNANT. Meanwhile Apple is up what? 600%

This is not years ago, catch a clue. I have never had a problem with G3.5 on my Windows box but it is the only thing on there too. Because I know the more programs that write to that F'd up registry the crappier Windows runs. Period.

I know what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree, but Windows is the industry standard, like it or not.

Maybe things will change to apple later :dontknow

LMAO... Windows... Standard or not it's still the Antichrist... or is that AOL...

Anyway what resolution / frequency are you running your video card? I am running a Viewsonic flat panel at 1280x1024 @ 60hz. Are you running DVI or analog? If you have the ability to run DVI I would give that a shot too...

If you are running it too high or even too low resolution / freq perhaps that is causing you sim not to show, but hear the sounds. If I remember correctly Unreal Tournament used to have issues with anything higher than 1024x768 and 75hz, but that was forever ago it seems

I'll try not to turn this into an IT conference though...

Yes I think a good high end card and the right video drivers (not the ones from Microsoft the ones from the vendor) are the key to having G3.5 run well. I say "download from the vendor" not because I despise everything M$ is about but because they tend to "alter" defaults or used dated drivers.

Yeah. I upgraded the vid card and ram for a better G3 experience and it is awesome. I get frame rates of ~150 and all is great. Only thing I have to turn off is the shadows, that makes a HUGE difference.

I did not even use the CD that came with the vid card, I downloaded the upgraded drivers from the nvidia site and everything has been awesome.

The one other problem is that G3 completely crashed and had to be uninstalled because I let the system go into standby with G3 open. I wrote to tech support and they said the know of the problem and blah......blah.....blah......

I also don't want this to be an IT argument.

DDog, I am not doubting any of your abilities. I usually make jokes regarding the apple PC debate as it is no big deal to me.
Sorry if I offended you as I did not realize you would take this all so seriously.
I don't want to alienate anyone dude, we're all friends here.

Thanx for the tip. I have hours of that fun about every 18 months on my work computer. Since I have been there 20 years, thats a few times. not to mention everyone I know asks me for help on their PC and it inevitably requires fromat/install :arggg: :arggg:

I do too when I am in the process of a system design. Months of design, then months of RD/Development testing. Even during the RD RD/Development testing I am frequently in front of my puter cause I am doing ECOs or procedures etc.

I feel your pain, but I guess not as passionately

My passion is designing the best RF amplifiers that we can. Our computers are just one of the tools that get us there. hehe. If my O'scope or meter failed as often, we would probably change brands.

Speaking of which, a few months ago I went out to one of the test labs cause a tech was looking for guidance. He turned on this hot new o'scope, and after 30-40 seconds I jokingly said "damn, whats taking so long, that thing running on windows?". And I laughed, the tech looked at me and said, uhhhhhh........ yeah!

WHAT!!!! Your kidding!!!!???? Holy crap!! Running windows 2000, that boots, then runs the program that makes it an o'scope. What a bunch of crap!!
Great idea, take something that always runs great, and add windows.. Yeah! THATS a great idea! :arggg: :arggg: :arggg:

It is always a good idea to get the drivers for your specific video card from the vender who made it(Or directly from ATI or Nvidia website depending on which brand you are using).

Drivers from microsoft are very basic and just enough to get it running and thats it. They WILL NOT allow your hardware to run to its full potential. They were never intended to either.

I good high end card is useless unless the rest of your machine is up to the task.

I hate windows, and all the emulators I've found to run windows based software from *nix platforms have been lacking.
Ubuntu sure seems the best download and run out there..
