Hi all - I have only just found this site (Doh! - Think I could have saved myself a lot of time and stress - The videos are fantastic thanks Bob) I am busy downloading videos and searching threads so if this type of query has already been answered I apologise.
I have just fitted the following to my Dragonus - GY401 + S9254 with the stock ESC-BS40A and RC-expert 3600 kv motor I have two queries:
1 - Flying around inside doing simple setup stuff after two minutes the power cut out, heli dropped to the floor then the power must have come back on as the gyro reinitialised. Heli then continued flying for 4 mins or so. But exactly the same thing happened on the next two batteries?
2 - With the new bits the flying time is shorter + power seams to be down.
Have I fitted the correct servo + am I using the correct batteries - 2200 ma 15C lipos?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated. :?

Aaaaahhh - Having watched the video on setting up the ESC - I have noticed that mine should have a blue LED on to show that the brake is OFF. Mine wasn't - which means that I must have been flying with the brake on! - :arggg:
I will try again - would still appreciate your comments about the gyro/servo combination.
Thanks again for the videos Bob, just wish I had seen them a couple of months ago.

9254 is a pretty big servo for that heli. It maybe the BEC cant handle driving it.

Do you think a S9650 Mini would work better - I think this is the one your using in the tail? (I tried an S3154 which fits in the mounting slot in the chasis but it only lasted for about 30 minutes, my LMS told me that I probably set it up incorrectly and that it was too small for the tail.)
Thanks for the help - Nick

Yes I am using a 9650 and they sell a boom mount for that servo. BUT I didnt like the boom mount and used plastic Trex boom servo mounts. You cant use the Align metal ones as the boom is bigger in diameter.

I have flown four batteries today with no problems, it must have been the brake on the esc. The 9254 servo worked well but I have ordered a 9650 so that I can compare the two servos.
Now I just have to learn how to fly! Thanks for the help Bob

Nicks, If your using the ESC from RC expert, then that thing is garbage. I had the same one. It would over heat even running a 9 tooth pinion. IS your ESC getting hot? If so it has a thermal shut down when it reaches a certain temp it will shut down. Mine kept doing this , I finally purchased a Align ESC and have had no problems. I called RC expert up and he even told me that the ESC that comes with the Dragonus from them is garbage. Of coarse he would not take it back after I asked him.
Good Luck. I love my Dragonus Pro.

Thanks for the info. I think that it is the ESC overheating - I'm going to try the smaller servo - 9650 on MOnday and aim to replace the ESC over the next couple of weeks. Which ESC do you think would work the best?
Thanks again - Nick

I amusing the Align 35 amp esc. There are two models out one is a "g" model and the other is "b" I believe . The G is used for six volt system . The ESC runs about 50 US dollars. I have had no problems with the align ESC

It works much better with the new smaller servo - Thanks Bob. I am going to make sure that everything works correctly and then sort out a new ESC - Thanks for the advice Falcon, most appreciated.

Actually this is not correct. The Align 35G is a 4.8V BEC and the Align 35X is the 6V BEC.

I thought I read a post a couple of days ago saying that you were going to do some more vids with a Hobby-Lobby plastic dragonus. Is that right or did I doze off again ?

I am trying to set up this same esc, and i can not even get the motor to do anything except "hesitate" for a few seconds. Where do i find this esc setup video that you are talking about?

Um i hope so its the nylon parts instead of the alloy job it came with a quark 33a speedy and some motor :?: i think the speedy may be poo havent tried it yet
The two heli's are quite similar, most of the parts are interchangeable which is great for upgrading. But the build will be a little bit different. The quark esc you have is a great esc Jason Krause uses it I am pretty sure and hes one of the top pilots going around. If you got your heli in Australia it comes with the same motor as the hobby lobby one. Its a good motor with plenty of power for 3d on 13tooth pinion.
Enjoy

Not sure this is true anymore? I know he was using it well over a year ago but now that he is tied in with Align I would find it suprising if he was using it now?

Hi Bob
First what fantastic videos you produce thank you.
You wrote on the Wed July 11 :- Still working on it. I am about 1/2 done. I'll get them posted soon.

Looking forward to these videos as I have the Dragonus II + which I built using your previous videos for the Dragonus as a guide.
But I have a strange problem servos all centred correctly link lengths as per manual tried various settings on the link posistions A1 B1 C1 for beginner, intermediate and extreme 3D but trying to set the pitch on the blades get very little positive pitch but massive amounts of negative pitch.
So looking forward to the new videos.

Thanks Bob!
The videos were a great help.
Anyone getting the Dragonus II Plus with the plastic head and tail parts would do themselves a favor buy purchasing a 2mm tap with a screwdriver handle. Keeps the screws straight, especially important with the ball screws, and makes assembly that much easier. I didn't overtap the hole, mostly just enough to see the end of the tap coming out the other side a thread or two.
Dragonus II Plus with a good lipo charger and 6 channel radio is coming in around $630-700 depending on radio and charger, and figuring in a Futaba GY240 gyro.
Thanks again.... :fly :fly :fly :fly
