Right, but with note that shipping will begin in early May 2007.

Read the fine print ...

Available: approx. at the beginning of of May 2007"

Beat me to it.

As soon as the new helis appear, they're going to come out with carbon versions, right? Right?

No, the whole idea is to not use carbon frames.

Why not?

I try to stay away from CF as much as possible. Besides, the new frames are way more rigid than the current CF frames could ever be.

Because you can't mold carbon fiber into the shape the frame is going to be. With CF it has to be flat etc...

From the product announcement:

The mainframe is made from glassfiber-reinforced polymer material and manufactured by injection moulding. An advantage of this type of mainframe is that it allows for much greater freedom in designing than is the case with a mainframe which is assembled by screwing flat carbon parts together. Consider the placement of the servos as seen above, for example. We have integrated the three (standard- or midsize) swashplate servos into the frame by providing slots for each one. In this way the servos are very easy to install and the likeages can be kept short and perfectly aligned. Also the entire mainframe is optimized for weight and extremely rigid at the same time.

Well the biggest reason is the cost of the frame plates, currently it is pretty outrageous. Secondly the simplicity of the new frames and their ability to accomadate full size servos with no modifications at all. I see the change as a very positive one for Mikado. They will be able to be more cost competitive and in the end it is a smarter design than the current one imho.

So we're going from Carbon Beauty to Plastic Fantastic?

Are we all buying in to some marketing hype? I mean, the Raptor is "glass reinforced plastic" as well... :dontknow

I know the design is in the details, but...

The logos are well designed helis that everyone agrees on. This is just a new version/design that Ralph feels is better and more affordable to compete with the technology now available vs. when the older designs were designed. OR its all marketing hype to upgrade to make money.

The simple fact that the head is not redesigned is because it works and there is no real benefit in doing so. However, V-bar can contradict my last statement.

In my short period of this hobby I have seen A LOT of "totally destroyed" Logo frames. While the Logo is known for being a fast, light, agile helicopter... it was not renowned for durability. The new egg shape looks to be able to take more of a beating.

I asked the Mikado folks about the Logo in Toledo last week... since they were packing the ones they had up to send back to Germany for another show (or testing - I forget). I would not imagine we are NOT very close to seeing a kit here in the near term. :dontknow

I'm hearing mid-May for the 500, with the 600 to follow, in weeks, not months.

I've also heard the new frames are very tough, and have survived many "plantings". :)

Good lord, I wish it was a faster train, that might mean the Logo 6003D by late June or July, that sucks for me as half my summer and flyable weather will be over. :bawl :(

You might want to think about moving Shawn. In Florida you can fly year round. Of course that does mean the cost of the hobby is double also...crashes and upgrades year round. :(

Motions, man I would love that. I am actually considering Australia as I have a connection there, that would be good to, only "real expensive there". I like where I live, but yes the winter is a real crapper when it comes to this hobby, allot of sitting around and no flying. :(.

Bugger, got everything i need in, just need the airframe. These next few months will feel like years.

Shawn, you'd love australia and brisbane or perth are the best cities to live in. Just if your coming to brisbane bring some water with you as we're in our worst drought at the moment, we cant even wash our cars here!
