G'day Mates,

I took my Trex600 (MA Razor wantabie) out for a fly today to fine-tune things today. Thankfully I had my on-board Wattsup meter in place to help me out. After a couple of flights I noticed that my peak watts were going up. Another clue was that my motor temps were, after ~ 6 min flights, steadily increasing, from 145 to 200 deg F and the heli seemed to have more power.

This is pretty well the same thing that happened before my first stock Ion-x hacker motor (c50/15xl 1120 kv) flame-out. I sent this one back to hacker and got a replacement. They said that the new ones were kevlar coated and had better bearings. Personally, I don't believe this and I think that these Hacker motors, even though they are pretty expensive and German built, are pretty poor quality. Their escs (hacker 77-0 heli esc) are ok if you like 100% flat lined throttle curves but the gov mode is unusable.

Maybe this motor would be fine on 6-8s, but it's not a 10s motor imop. Not with the new high C rated lipos.

Hard to believe that MA still sells this combo (c50/15xl, hacker 77 heli esc).

Just to give the Germans another chance, I've ordered a Kontoniks 45-08 and 12t and 13t mikado 0.7 mod pinions. This is supposed to be the MA Razor best ratio for this motor on 10s (~+/-14:1). I'll let you know how it works out.

Cheers,

Tom C

I ran one for a bunch of flights in a Boxed Raptor and other than running hot it did pretty well.

You bust me up Tom.

The Kontronics motor should last 1200+ flights, Clint's has. I am about to start flying the 45-08 in my Razor.

Will,

In all fairness, Eric warned me about this motor a month or two ago. He experienced a lot of heat-related problems with it during early MA Razor tests. He discussed this problem with Hacker reps and they agreed that the C50/15xl motor was not a good match for the Razor on 10s.

Lots of guys have flamed these motors on Ions. Anyway, I'll send this motor back to Mr Hacker to have a look-see. If I get a replacement, don't know what heli I'd trust putting it in again, maybe a 6-8s Swift.

Cheers,

Tom C

I don't understand how the Hacker A50-14S is being advised as a good motor option for the Razor either to be honest....I ran one briefly in a Logo and it ran hot as hell and used up alot more juice from the pack. I personally did not like it, each to their own however.

Ditto here, I went to the 45-08 no heat, less amp draw, a little less power though. Still a good trade off.

I have decided to go with the Hacker A50-14S per Larson's recommendation - he's had great success with this motor per his comments on the board. I am going to use the CCHV85 in combination. I also know some guys have chosen the Neu and that motor has the rep. of getting real hot - my reason for not choosing it. I would have went with the Acro, but the consensus was it lacked consistency. and of course the Tango has been touted as the reliable workhorse. I would have gone with the Tango, if it had more power. So, I am back with trying the Hacker - seemed to me per the pilot reports, to have almost the best power and duration.
All I can do is hope for the best, as I have learned everything about these motors from this board.
Once I try it out, will let you know.

I'm petty sure you'll be fine with this motor. There are a few guys running it on 10s Trex600's and have not had any problems (see some of fogger's threads on the trex600 section of this forum. eg; http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=30128 ).

Just take it easy on your max/min pitch settings to begin with and slowly increase them, monitoring motor temps, ect. You don't want to bog these (or any) motors as this will cause everything to heat up pretty fast.

Best of luck, and cheers,

Tom C

Thanks Tom - seems that some guys are having succes with the new Hacker motor - and Larson is pretty conservative about what he recommends - he likes all the MA pilots to have a couple hundred flights on a set up before posting available power options.
Will report back,
Jeff
