Almost have my mini titan complete. Looking at the skids, man those things are cheezy looking. They look like they would break on the first hard landing. Sure would like to find a suitable replacement. I was looking at trex gear but they would make the bird sit too low. Can't wait for the aftermarket guys to come on board and address this. Any ideas are welcome.

The skids were built that way to keep the bird light. Ace wanted a 450 that was lighter than the trex. my understanding is it is lighter.
This is reflected in the design of the skids, they are lighter than what align has to offer in the trex.
I would look into the Gorilla gear "tall" skids.

Apparently the Mini Titan is actually about 30g heavier than a T-Rex.
Key thing about the light skids however is that as they are the lowest parts of the heli and any weight on them would affect the c of g the most so it makes sense keeping them light. Thats the reason why the battery tray is so high up. Personally I wouldnt change the skids unless an equally as light version comes available. Who cares about the look anyway - the way this thing flies, who's gonna notice the skids? :)
As far as strength is concerned - take a look at the spare parts cost for a replacement undercarriage -damn they're cheap!!

The skid are pretty strong, unless you catch the front, I had one set break in a crash which wasn't unexpected  but I dropped the Mini Titan when putting it in the car to go flying on Sunday and it broke the front curved part of the skid off at the leg. Still, they are cheap!

As a newbie I had the bad habbit to get the E325 fast on the ground.. Could see each time the skid getting wider.. I changed many parts in multiple crashes, Mini Titan's skid were never on the list.
Now that I hover a bit better, I don't 'slam' the E325 on the ground no more.. I built up a small stock of parts (Sort of a crash kit) and the skid is not part of it..
As it is my first and only heli, I can't compare with other skids, but as far as I'm concerned, they are solid..

I may try the Gorilla Gear tall skids just to see how they do. I have them on my Rex450se and they rock, but yea I want to fly the Mini T right out of the box first and see how it does on its own. The spares are cheap enough. I wanted to try it as is first because I spent a lot in upgrades on my rex450 and 600 before I even flew them stock. I will upgrade the head when the CNC upgrades come out but other than that I hear this bird is pretty sweet stock.
I do admit though that I too am dissapointed in the overall cheezy look of the stock Mini Titan skids. I would have preferred a more conventional T-rex style setup there. But will see how they hold up

I broke 4 sets of stock skids on hard landings (the "auto" landings were due to a cutting out ESC, hehe) I put a set of the tall gorillas on recently and they work great and are very tough. Also easy to see in the air :D

Got a pic?
Better than a picture, look for Bob Finley's video called gear_paddles.wmv.
Got 3 colors Fluorescent green, Orange and black. High or low profile virtually indestructible :glasses2:
Comes with paddles for the flybar where you can add weight or not..
Video explains it in great details. :)

I may still try the gorilla gear on the mini. I got the heli yesterday and I feel that the stock skids will probably be ok for now but I will order a set of gorilla gear and put them on to be safe.

Revised judgment after braking three of them: Answer is (for me) definitely Gorilla gear sold by www.rchover.com
Not only they are virtually unbreakable but they are really a true shock absorber. The folks at rchover are really fantastic  I did order 2 sets of tall skids and received 2 shorts. After a single e-mail they sent me another two set free of charge  Now that is what I call looking after their customers! I can only recommend them :D [/b]

Yes I agree. Gorilla Gear and Paddles Rock! And so does the staff at RcHover. Jeremy told me from day 1 to use the Gorilla gear on my Rex450se and he was 100% right. They have saved my butt lots of times in crashes so far. My friend broke 2 sets of Align rex450 stock gear over the weekend. I said "Are you going to listen to me yet?" Now that I have had the Mini-T for a few weeks and decided that the stock gear just doesnt cut it I'm going to pick up a set of GG this week for it.

I dyed my stockers black and it seems to have made them more flexible. I broke one set and these black ones have handled a few botched autos on pavement. (RIT dye/boiled for 10min) :D

This was a trick with early Century Swift undercarriage, boiling them in water for a while seemed to make them more flexible. I seem to remember Graupner props used to come with a note to boil them before use to relieve manufacturing stresses.

Perhaps I might try boiling my entire heli :-)

Should be an interesting experiment, aiming for an unbreakable heli? :D

looks cool with black gear! So the old school boiling trick still works heh? I may just drop my skids in a pot of water before I take the Mini T out to the field on Sunday. Rit dye worked too? I tried to dye my skids on my Raptor Titan .50 black and they turned purple! I had to Krylon them black.

I just ordered the tall gorilla gear ! Can't wait to see it bend like in Finless's vids.
They don't cost a lot and as far as i know they are the best skids ever.
Grtz,
