Hi, is anybody using the new ( at least to me) thunder tiger servos????
If so, how would they compare to let's say Futaba's 9252's?
I'm looking for electronics for a new R90.

It seems like there are not many stores selling them.
Would you go with the 9252's for a .90 or there is need for something beefyer???

9252's

Power Supply: 4.8V (Futaba does not recommend using 6V)


9255's
SPECS: Speed: .17 sec/60 degrees @ 4.8V
Torque: 112 oz-in @ 4.8V
Weight: 1.96 oz (56g)

.04 sec slower but 20 oz-in more of torque? I'd argue the 9255's are better on specs alone. Plus, the centering ability is much better than the 9252's.

Ask Gordie Meade or DavidH or Ben Minor what they think of 9255's over 9252's.

9451's are good for 3d, there's actually a good write up on them (but they are car servos). However, for general purpose, the 9252's are good. The 9255's are stronger and have better centering. More for precision flying.

The do not compare on 6 volts ;) Plus those 2 are FAI guys what do they care about torque and speed :lol:

Will said you can run 9252's on 6V I am gonna give it a try with my 2nd Rex since I have 9252's laying around.

Speed is not everything in a servo.
The centering of the servo, how precise it moves, and torque also come into the equation.

An example. I had two identical models setup other than the servos.
One model had Futaba 9250's
9250 4.8V 76.3 oz-in. 0.11 sec/60°

The other model had 9252's
9252 4.8V 91.6 oz-in. 0.14 sec/60°

I would let pilots fly the two models. They would always say the one with the 9252's flew better.
The 9250's are .03 faster than the 9252's.
The 9252's have 15.3 ozs more torque than the 9250's.

But I also feel the resolution was better on the 9252's over the 9250's. The more torque and better resolution made up for the very slight difference in speed.

9255 4.8V 112.0 oz-in. 0.17 sec/60°

With the 19 ozs difference in torque. And I am sure the resolution is better on the 9255's. You would probably think the 9255's were actually faster than the 9252's when flying the model.

If you are running a 14MZ, the 9255s work REALLY well, better than 9252s, but not as good on 1024.

Another thing about 9255's.............they stay in match A LOT longer and A LOT better than 9252's. This is a critical point for any eCCPM machine. The metal geartrains really are holding up well, too.

Don't get me wrong, I like the 9451's and I'm probably going to try them in my upcoming Stratus. I have 9252's in my Raptor and 9255's in my Spectra and Tempest FAI. I'm willing to give the 9451's a shot in the Stratus when I build it. I might even put them in the Razor if/when the nitro version comes out. A lot of pilots are running the 9451's. I think a couple of guys around here are using the 9351's as well. :dontknow

thanks, for all the info, i've checked all of those and I think I have to decide between the 9252 or the 9451's otherwise the budget keep going up and up.....
I just wanted to be sure that I would not be "short" of torque with the 9252's.

The 9252's have plenty of torque. If you are running 6v though, you can't beat the price of the 9451's.

Will told me he has been running 9252's at 6V for some time now. I know Futaba does not suggest it but that was back in 2002 also when the servo came out.

I will let you know.

HiTec HS-6975 servos are nice and fast on 6v too ;)

HiTec HS-6975 servos are nice and fast on 6v too ;)

I've been running 9252's for quite awhile on 6 volts with no probs at all. At least a 100+ flights. Running them in s Stratus as well on 5.8 volts. Normal NiMh packs start out at a much higher voltage than 4.8 and that alone tells you they will run in excess of 4.8 volts without a prob..

Well, it seems like the 9451's are the best choice (yes, I know there are better ones, but I need to stay within budget).
Although I'm not sure I'm ready to go inot 6v quite yet, as the options are the A123's (quite new and not sure I read everything about them yet) pros: cheaper than LiPo's and the most importatnt issue for me they can withstand crashes. against: I need to buy balancer and charger for them, weigth (although I'm flying now with 4300mah NiMh :oops:) but the idea is to improve in all aspects.
as for the LiPo's, pro's: weight, not as new and therefore more proved as for the best choice (so far), against: need balancer (I guess I can use my Triton for a 2S2P), I'll be buying lots of them due to crashes, and the price...
So, as far as power I think I'll stick to my NiMh for a bit longer, especially since I bought 4 packs not long ago (2 2500mah and 2 4300mah).
