Man I'm ready for spring. We shot some video for a custom home builder to promote some of their lots last weekend. This is with my custom mount under my Condor gasser with a Kenyon KS-2. I'm working on a new version for a KS-4 that will support HD cameras in the 5lb range.
Here's a 1 1/2 minute straight uncut clip, 25MB.

Here's a final version for the client, 1 1/2 minutes, 25MB

Nice.
I like seeing the unedited and then edited clip.
The zoom freaked me out at first. :glasses2:

nice... I almost forgot what a gasser sounds like
do you have an AP2000i on that ship?

Yeah, it's got an AP-2000. I've found I like to have it on, but only about 10~15%, anymore than that and the heli feels too stiff.
I've got some issues with the Condor. I don't feel I've got the needles perfect, I'm still getting a tail kick that shows up in the video. The electric has spoiled me.
Last weekend I was flying it in some stiff winds and discovered it develops a shake when at max collective in FFF.
I talked to Bill Meador yesterday and I'm going to try and get down to Corpus Christi and get some Gasser 101 training from him on the 17th.

When I shoot solo, I have a hard-hat that I've mounted a video receiver and a CV-1 monocular video display to. It looks kinda goofy, but it works.
On my big stabilized video rig, it's controlled in all 3 axis, so I don't shoot solo with it. I lift it for test flying with the Kenyon powered up, but it's not as good without the active stabilization engaged which requires a camera operator.
For my camera operator, I use a Helicam Solutions Mobil Monitor.
Here's a self portrait from last weekend :)

I shot it with my Sony HC-1. The video is smoothest I've been able to shoot, but I'm still not satisfied with it. There are still some wiggles, although some of it is tail kicks from the engine.
I've run some of it through Premiere Pro with the 2D3 SteadyMove stabilizer and it smooths it right out, but at the expense of image sharpness. Ok for the web, but not for DVD. Neither of the clips I posted had been post stabilized, they're "as-is" from the camera and compressed into .wmv format.
I want to be able to shoot footage that looks like the footage from the local traffic chopper. I want a Tyler mount that'll fit under a gasser!
As for the hat, I want to get a diversity receiver that uses two antennas. Then it'll look like a set of horns. Then I'll be a hit with the local rednecks. All the construction guys will want one.

Next we'll be seeing people with giant lenses sitting on the peaks of their baseball caps! Luckily I need to add no accessories at all to look singularly unattractive! :D:D
great picture! thanks for laying it all out there :D

I'm thinking double beer can hat with the siphons to keep you hydrated on the longer shoots
