Hi guys,

has somebody fitted a rexy on a funkey Hughes 500 or Airwolf fuse? 30 or 50 size? How hard was it?

Any insights would be great. Thanks.

I have seen the T-Rex 600 stuffed into a Hughes 500 and a Jet Ranger fuse. Both looked great.

The mechanics fit easily enough. You don't have to fool around with the exhaust system, but you do have to fool around with battery access.

Hi Ron, would you know where I can buy a Jet Ranger fuse for the TR600?
Thanks.

I have one in a Hirobo Jet Ranger, fit was almost like it was made for it.

batteries slip in and out the side windows, so it's easy to recharge.

RC Hobbies and More in Winsted CT stocks a few of the Hirobo scale fuses.

I'm just finishing the build of the mechanics of the 600 to fit in a Hughes 500. At first glance it will need a new floor as the frame is narrower than the wood floor. The elevator servo sits close to the plywood frame mount and may need a modification. The fuselage boom will need to be cut down about 3 inches. And, the tail servo may need a modified placement. I'm going to test fly the frame this week before I mount it into the fuse. Pics will follow when I mate the two.

There is a new awesome Funkey Hughes 500MD fuselage at Century.

I've seen a few posts about a Hughes 500 Fun Key fuselage and a T-rex 600. I've started my build and wanted to post some pics. Helps to remove the base plate to set up the floor installation bolt holes. I cut a length of the boom bottom to make a push rod exit. The top of the fuse needed to be cut to clear the auto-rotation bracket. I'll keep posting pics if there is any interest.

If anyone else is working on a 500 and has made some progress please let me know. Tks.

I ended up going for the Airwolf, but the MD 500 will be my next one, for sure.

Thanks for sharing your findings.

PLEASE continue posting pics of the h-500 fuselage construction as you go. :D
I am getting ready to get a 600 and this project has been on my mind for a LOOOOONG TIME.

I've completed mounting the T-rex frame to the inside of the 500 and I wanted to test it out. I have a large backyard with a pool. The windows are taped and the antenna is temporarily mounted to the skids. Take a look at the pics.

Is the flybar going to be a issue?
I understand its pretty close even for scale flight.
Any info on that would be appreciated.
BTW-Hovering over water is truly a test of confidence :WOW

Jimjam - yes the flybar is a concern, you have to be careful on spool up - make sure the blades and paddles are level. You can adjust the end points to reduce travel - just have to be careful. I though of making the "engine cover" breakaway just in case but I'm not happy with that idea. If you figure a better way pls let me know. Let me know about your progress - pics are appreciated.

nick

Yeah that issue has me on HOLD.
I only plan to fly scale but that looks scary close.
Hovering looks fine but what kind of bank range can you get?
I guess what I am getting at is that with that setup, is it good for hovering only or is it enough space for the flybar to do scale flying without holdng your breath.

I've run small figure 8s without a problem. I'll have more flights this weekend with reduced end points (75%). I'll let you know. Holding my breath is usually how I fly anyway

Thanks :D
You can email me as many pics as you want.
I am especially interested in what it took to get the mechanics into the fuse. Servo clearance, pushrods ect ect.
I am a sponge right now and taking in any and all info available.
Deetee were documenting a build but got WAY more involved than I planned.

I really want the 500 but if the flybar situation proves to be too risky, I found some pics of a jet ranger 50 size.
The mechanics are the rex 600 and the flybar appears to be much higher up.
My heart is still on the 500e and maybe the flybar height is plenty for scale flying.

Jimjam

I reduced the endpoints to 70% on A, E and P and went out to do some agreesive flying - no problem. I flew as close to scale as possible without incident. Flying included figure 8s both tight and big - no problem.

efly726 man that is cool!!!!Tks Lithiumstatic - there were a few times during the build when I was tempted to trash the thing - your feedback is appreciated. Tks

How about some pics, when you get the time , showing how you mounted the tail servo/pushrod.
Got my rex today and had a few flights.
Once I get a better idea of what Im getting tinto, Im ordering the fuselage.
Any tips and advice welcomed :)

Hi Jimjam - the servo end of the pushrod is actually attached to the tail case. I got the tip from another flyer - use the empty hole. I made the push rod out of 2mm CF rod and a 2mm ID hollow rod. The brass rods were CA in place and re-enforced with baking powder. This combo makes for a very solid bond. Here are some pics. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks again EFLY726.
Like I said post as as many pics as you want.
Got any pics showing how you attached the mechanics to the fuse?
Couple weeks of wringing out the rex getting it as bulletproff as I can and Im going to dive in and get the 500e fuse.
Might need to wait until my CC stops smoking first

Hi Jimjam - here's how I attached the mechanics to the fuselage. I used many of the spacers that came with the Funkey 500.
