View Full Version : Is There Anything To Do With A LiPo Battery Pack....

Once it has been discharged below normal voltage besides tossing it away? I was setting up my T Rex SE again after two of the servos stripped, and I decided to start from the servos up, re-setting the head ala Finless' CCPM video...Had my motor unplugged, but ran down a 2100maH Thunder Power LiPo pack 'till the servos wouldn't move (quite by accident-the time flies when setting up the head). Anyway, I hook the battery up to my trusty charger and get a "Low Voltage-Check Battery" message...Is there anyway to bring this thing back to life or is it toast?
Hoping I don't have to pick up another pack....

Hey,
A trick I was told by a friend who had a similar problem with the LiPo pack going below voltage was to very carefully charge it for around a minute (or less) on a NiCad setting on your charger.
Now this is something you have to do very carefully but did work and the pack came to life again, probably a little off peak but working well.
Incase your wondering who advised this trick it came from Flight Power directly as it was one of their packs which had been discharged badly.
I have not tried this trick myself though :badair:

Hi Coolice,
Thanks for the idea...I got up this morning and hooked up the LiPo to the charger just for giggles, and it started taking a charge...Maybe letting it rest overnight allowed it to build up enough reserve charge to allow it to be re-charged? I don't know, but if it happens again, I'll try the NiCad setting for a quick "boost"....
Man, it's cold here on the East Coast of the US today!
Thanks again!

Hey,
Your welcome, glad the pack appears to have come to life again.
While the above trick works ok, it is not to be undertaken lightly as we all know lipo's are volatile.
It to is very cold in the UK, worse than normal as we have had a good few inches of snow today to.

I will heed your warning, if I try it, I will supervise it for only a minute or two at the most....
Thanks again!

And when you do that quick "boost" do so at a VERY low amperage setting.

The FMA Cellpro charger has a setting to recover over discharged cells, and does so for the individual cell in the pack as it charges each cell independantly via the balance plug.

I actually ran down my Thunder Power 11.1v 910millamap pack all the way to where nothing worked myself...was on all nite long. I put it on a slow charge of .1 amp's and let it run. Took almost two hours but finally started taking in the juice. Once the charge took I moved it up to .5 and finished the charge and the pack works better now then when new. And I almost threw this away without trying it. Good luck to your pack........
