Does anyone know of a easy way to record GPS data with a Photo? The idea would be to have a WAAS GPS receiver on the heli feeding data to the camera. When the camera takes a picture the NEAMA string would be stored in the photo header.

Looks like Ricoh has a camera that does this - http://www.dpreview.com/news/0702/07020501ricoh500se.asp, but haven't found much else.

The GPS would need to be WAAS. This would enable you to determine the location the photo was taken (including alt) within 10-20'. Of course differential GPS would be even better. I'm thinking along the lines of surveying sites for future construction, determining views, etc.

Thanks!

My understanding is both the high end Nikon and Canons can accept GPS input, and store it with the EXIF data
Have a search over at Fredmiranda, Sure I read about it there some time ago

The Nikon D200 has a GPS interface that allows you to hook it to a small hand held GPS and stamps the GPS info on the exif data of eacj image.

Cool. Looks like I'll need a bigger heli. The D200 is a little much for a Logo 10!

There are also small usb GPG devices that simply sync with your cameras internal clock. They clip to you camera or camera bag, after a days shot you download the pictures and then plug teh usb GPS into your computer and it marries the GPS info to your pictures by using the time code on your EXIF data. Simple, light and inexpensive. I forgot where I saw these. Google should answer this.

Wow, that might work. Thanks. A whole lot cheaper than building up a new bird to carry a D200!

Quick Google "GPS stamp on photos" reviews a lot of options.
This is/similar to the device that I saw.
It might already be a dated approach?

Thanks Flyboy.

Here is a review of the Sony device:

looks slightly less than optimal for AP heli applications. However, it turns out you can use any GPS and camera you like and match them up later with 3rd party software. Obviously for our applications we would need a WAAS enabled GPS at minimum. Here is a web page I found that talks about the 3rd party software and other options:

Here's an add on device. It stores info in its own buffer to be downloaded later.
