Hopefully someone can tell me if this is normal or I've got something wrong. First timer with my 450 XL CDE. DX7 and Fut. 401GY and when
I give full left rudder it seems like the bird loses power and drops. I have
to counter with more power.

Is this an ESC problem? Setup problem, or typical behavior? Thanks!

Doesn't seem normal. I don't know enough about electics to say, but I'm just wondering if the tail servo might be trying to push the pitch slider past its limit. The 401 has a pot to adjust the limit. If it isn't set right the servo might be sucking up a lot of power - especially if it's a digital servo - trying to go past where it can go. On the ground, you might check full rudder and make sure the pitch slider isn't being pushed farther than it can go. Just a guess.

With a clockwise rotating main rotor, counterclockwise rotation ( turning the nose left) should take less power (torque from the rotor doing most of the work) I think Vera is right, something is binding, probably the tail pitch slider
