I am in the process of building my first Ion-x. I am at the point where I am supposed to install the front and rear canopy standoff's. The front one has a piece of all-thread red locktighted in it while the rear one is fixed to the frame by a m3x8.

:?: My question is which standoff is the front one. The long one (43mm) or the shorter one (37mm) :?:

They both look the same size in the drawing and I don't want to red locktite the wrong one to the all-thread. If I had to guess, I would say the longer one is the front, but help would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Question number 2.

:?: When installing the battery mount spacers it calls for M3x8 hex heads and my kit came with M8x6's. Only about 3 to 3.5 mm of thread went in the spacer. It didn't seem like it was enough, but will this be OK or should I wait for the M3x8's? :?: Also do all four indents in the battery spacers face forward, or just the rear??

Thanks in advance,
Dave

The longer standoff's go to the front lower part of the canopy and all of the indents on the battery mounts face forward to keep the angle of the battery plate the same from front to rear. As for the shorter bolts, if it were me I would use the longer ones if you have them. Hope that helps!

Thank You Bill! I'll have to get the longer ones from MA, but I'd feel better with them in there.

OK, with the exception of missing thrust bearings for one main blade and some missing red velcro, everything went together real good.

As far as set-up...the two linkages from the aileron bellcranks up to the swash are not very straight. they are not even close to 90 degrees like they should be. (see pictures below) And after installing all of the linkage to the swash as described in the manual, the front of the swash is noticable higher in the front. Like 5-10mm. It seems like if the bellcranks were spaced out a little the arms would be closer to 90 and the back of the swash would come up closer to level. Anyone else run into issues like this or is this normal??

Thanks,
Dave :?:

Here is a better picture from the back showing what I'm talking about.

If this is normal, should I just shorten the link from the elevator bellcrank to the swash?

Hi Dave,

The angle on the aile bellcrank/swash links is normal.

If I remember correctly there was an error in the linkage lengths - I measured one of mine just now...

left and right bellcrank/swash links = 19.85mm
elev (front) bellcrank/swash link = 13.10mm

If your bellcranks are level (and they seem to be) I'd just shorten the links.

I got it. Thanks for the help bob00!! I just adjusted them a little and kept everything at 90deg as I did it.

Thanks,

So I ordered the 32-3, gearing and HV110 today, Since everything comes from orlando I should have it here in Tampa tomorrow. All I'm lacking now is a 611 combo for the tail and its Ion in the air baby!!!

You may want to save a few dollars and get the Logictech 6100T Gyro Dave. I like mine better than any 601 I have ever had so far.... Time will tell, but it holds better for sure and works witht he Futaba GY menu just like the 611.

Congrats on getting everything together, you will LOVE the 32-3 and it will last for years.

Thanks for the info Will, I'll check in on that gyro. And thanks again for the help on getting this Ion together. I was hoping to meet you guys in Port Charlotte, but I.m going to the Daytona 500 for the first time this year, so It will have to wait until the next FunFly.
