How does one go about estimating the actual flight time any particular battery, motor, esc, heli, etc. combo will give? Is there a rough formula to figure this out?

I am looking at a TP4600 6SXL battery for a Shuttle that I have converted. This battery will fit perfectly and allow the heli to balance just right.

The Shuttle has a Kontronik Tango 45-08 motor, CC HV85 ESC, with fixed 9.625 gearing, AUW of 7.5lbs (with battery).

Now, if I just wanted to hover it around, how much time could I expect with this battery or better yet, how can I go about calculating it?

Thanks!
Clark

You should test fly a short flight or two to find out how much you put back in the pack after a specified period of time. In your case, if you fly 4 min and put back 1800 mah, you would then know that you were good to go for 8 minutes of similar flight, due to that that you should only use 80% of capacity on your pack.

I do not believe that there is a specific formula that would allow you to figure this out in advance, due to the countless variations of setup, efficiency of components, etc... the best that you could probably do is find out what people with similar setups are getting with regards to flight times.
