I'm waiting on graves rc to contact minair on a price package for me on monday.I told them I want the ion kit with the single stage mount and the 77-0 heli esc.I am hoping it will be alittle cheaper than the ion 2 stage/hacker package. So hopefully by springtime I can rock an ion with you guys.I have been flying the real flight g3 sim and can do hard 3d on there non stop.Hopefully all that practice and waiting has prepared me enough for the real thing. This will be my first heli and my first electric.I Can't wait.

Uhm, you may just want to wait....they are apparently going to make some changes soon in the IonX; additionally, a stretched version of the Razor is supposed to be released as well....rumored in 'a few months'. The stretched Razor is supposed to be lighter and therefore have a better power to weight ratio.
I'm in Bridgeport, WV...where is Ranson?

I like the looks of the ion right now and it looks to be very capable and sturdy.I am going to go with the new actro 32-3 max motor and flightpower 3700s to start.I am going to use the hitec HS-6975HB servos on the swash.Has anyone tried these servo's?Also I am going to get two of the tp 1010 chargers should I go with the flight power ballancers or go with the tp ones?

I just bought an Ion-x from Graves three days ago. I live in Tampa, so I had it next day. And after a couple late-late nights, it went together nice. The kit was missing one set of thrust bearings for the main blades and the 18" of red velcro, but they will send them next week.

I have'nt decided what power package i'm going with yet, so I still need to get the motor, esc and gearing. I'm leaning towards the 32-3 at 10:1 with the EVO 4350's. Iv'e heard good things about that combo on the Freak! And I'm going with 9252's on the cyclic and a 611 combo on the tail. I have heard the Hitec servos work good as well.

Chris at MA said to get the latest additions, make sure it is a -5 or -6 kit. I got a 1024-6 kit. Here is a couple pics of my progress so far. Good luck with your kit when you get it!! :D

Unless you have a lot of $'s and friends with good building experience, the Ion-x s not a good choice for a newbie imop. Best of luck though.

Well I think I can figure out the building procedures and setup on my own through online research instuctions and manuals. And I can afford the heli and all just not everything at once it is just the lipo's and esc that I have no clue.I have always flown and driven nitro vehicles but I have never had a electric before that used brushless motors and speed controls.I am going to go electric because I imagine that a nitro heli gets pretty oily after flight and I am sort of a clean freak when it comes down to my property.Plus I don't want to be having to buy nitro all the time.Maybe I can get sponserd by flightpower and get some free lipo's :lolol I don't know I have my mind pretty well made up and I can afford it it is just that I will need some help when I get to the esc and lipo side of it.Plus I will probably need some help setting the headspeed.I just hope it will fly hard 3d like I do on g3.Here is a link to the modded ion for g3 that I have altered to my linking.I lowered the weight som to simulate the fp 3700's.

Just my opinion, but I think you would be better off starting with a Swift on 5s. You can get a 5s package deal from Century that will cost less to buy than your first big Ion-x crash. If you use 5s 3700 Evo20 packs you can use these later on an Ion. Also, you'll only need 1/2 the number of these packs (3-4) to run the Swift all day. You'll need 6-8 packs to run the Ion all day.

Let alone learning to actually fly a heli, there is lots to learn about large electric components and setting them up. It's a lot cheaper to learn these things on a smaller/cheaper electric heli to begin with imop.

Do yourself a favour and visit a local heli club to see what they are flying and get some advise first-hand. Don't rely on the web for all your decissions. Also, it's great that you are using a sim but don't think that this actually fully sims the real thing. It helps a lot though.

Best of luck, and Cheers,

Tom C

I appreciate the advice but I have my mind made up on the ion.I know the sim isn't exactly like the real thing I use to fly nitro pattern and sport planes like the extra 300 and the big thing I noticed between real life and the sim is that there is wind gust and after making a input it isn't as smooth as it is in the sim.I know I have some things to learn about the lipos and setting hs but hopefully people here on the forum will help.

True, the Ion will be more expensive to fix after a crash, but imop you can learn to fly the 3d flying that your after alot faster on a nicer/larger machine. I have flown just about everything from blade cp's to the large Vigor's and Fury's and there is no comparison in the stability of a 30 size compared to a 60/90 size heli. My Razor is so smooth it makes me feel more confident in the air. If you can aford it...go for it!! Imop Miniature Aircraft makes a one of the best heli's!!

Not everyone, but most people on the forums are more than willing to supply all the help you'll need to make it happen.

Just my two cents.

Dave :)

sm1,

Well, if your mind is made up, and you can afford it and a few learning repairs, go for it. You certainly must have given this a lot of thought since you posted that you were going to buy a Trex 450 last Sept.

I do not know for sure, but I think you just might be the first Ion-x heli-trainee so be sure to send us some pics with your Ion on training gear!

Like Dave says, you can get lots of help on this forum. Do yourself a favour and try to get some local, hands-on help, before you 'fire-up' your Ion.

Best of luck and cheers,

Tom C

Definitely get some help. Joe from Floriday learned on an Ion-X so it can be done.

Yeah I stopped by the field today but nobody was there.First time I have to been to the field in years.Trust me I have given this alot of thought:)I was first thinking about getting the t-rex but the ion kept growing on me.I have thought about it alot and it really comes down to something that I am going to have for a long time and something that will keep me satisfied.I have practiced and waited long enough on the sim I can do piro funnells and I am just learning to do piro tic tocs so I feel confident enough now to go ahead and jump in.I like the t-rex but I would end up getting something bigger and better later on.This will be my last toy for atleast a year due to the fact that me and my girlfriend have agreed to put our hobbies (mainly mine) aside for awhile and start saving up for a house  .So I want to get something nice to keep me satisfied for that time of no more hobby shopping sprees :arggg: Training gear on the ion?Maybe.Probably should?I will at first.I don't think I need it but I will just till I get the hang of how it actually handles.I will make sure I post some pics of it with the training gear so you'all can laugh at me :lolol
