I think the hk500gt is 100% compatible with the trex 500. i do know that align makes a shorter main shaft, which i believe is for FBL. but should work for normal flybarred heads(i think)

HK is a long way to order a mainshaft... does Hobbyking USA warehouse have them?

I use the Align main shaft on my HK500GT. I had a small vibe, pulled out the main shaft and rolled it on some glass. It did have a very small wobble to it. After installing the Align mainshaft the wobble was gone. I dont think the HK500GT is a bad heli, just not up to Align's standards. I am putting more Align parts on it as issues or money allows.

I have rotgut mainshafts from the auction house right next to my
align shafts. If I find a bent clone shaft it goes in the trash.
Very few are, but it does happen. Considering the price
it's alot easier on my wallet until I get through all the newbie
crashing that I do. And it allows me to spend more $ on my uBeast
and I2 500 parts.

if you use a short main shaft you will probably get binding at full stick, witch means you would need to turn your pitch down. a fbl unit does not need as much throw to get the desired amount of pitch, the short shafts can only be used with FBL.

a HK500 shaft should work fine as long as it is the correct length.

as dannylightning (http://www.helifreak.com/member.php?u=110724) mentioned -> just make sure the shaft length is right. The short shaft is for FBL. FB versions would either loose pitch range or simply get binding (both not good).
