Guys,

I need bearings for my YS91ST and have a brand new set which I'd purchased for my OS91SZ. I appreciate that they are different manufacturers, but does anyone know if they happen to be the same size bearings? It would be very lucky, and convenient for me if they were the same.

Thanks,,,

They should be the same size. The C Spec has the same size as the YS 91. When I was using YS 91. I would buy the OS bearing and use in the YS.

This is the rear bearing that will fit the OS and YS 91s

This is front bearing that will fit OS 91 and YS 91

You can also check with Paul http://www.rc-bearings.com

rc-bearings also stock bearings with stainless steel races and ceramic balls. While I don't consider the ceramic balls a must have, I do however recommend the SS raced bearings. This will eliminate corrosion problems down the road.

Paul has great service and a great product.

He already has the bearings. He was just asking if they would work in a YS 91.

I guys,

The bearings I have were purchased from the US and are semi ceramic. Looks like just the balls are ceramic.

Q. Do any of you guys rate them? Do they last as long as Stainless?
PS. I've just got my new semi ceramic back bearing jammed whilst trying to fit it into the heated crankcase. :( Is this bearing likely to be destroyed now? Will heating it in the oven, the same way you get an old bearing to fall out damage the new bearing?

John,

Just heat it up again in the oven and it should come out with no problem. The reason I went to SS races is because of corrosion problem I've had.

I use the crankshaft as a tool to insert the new bearing. Just have the new bearing on the crankshaft. When I heat the case I just tap the case on a piece of wood then I just insert the crankshaft in the engine with the new bearing on it.

Good luck sorting it out.

Thanks Jeff. Will give it a go. Wasn't sure if the ceramic bearing and race could take the oven temp necessary to get it to release from the Crankcase without wrecking the bearing. Will get it out and give it a good looking at. If its ok, I'll use the slot it on the crankshaft as you mentioned and get the job finished. Ta.

Got the jammed bearing out eventually after heating it for ages and in the end was forced to tap it out using a screwdriver. I gather these bearings cannot handle side impacts so I'm going to order another back bearing. A Stainless one and use the method above to get it in without damaging it.

Are Stainless bearings considered better than Ceramics?

Would you guys use a (semi-ceramic) bearing that got jammed and needed tapping out using medium strength taps and a small hammer and screwdriver? Now that the bearing is cool enough to inspect, it looks ok, but I wouldn't want to use it if its likely to fail in no time. Anyone got any experience of this?

I wouldn't use it if it's notchy at all. If it's smooth running then I would use it.

Keep in mind there are bearings with steel races and bearings with stainless steel races. The balls can also be made of different material. Right now I'm running SS raced bearings with ceramics balls. I'm sure there are other types but I'm not familiar.

The only reason why I'm running SS raced bearings is so corrosion doesn't gather on the races. As far as using stock bearings I think they're fine also.

Thanks Jeff. Yep changing bearings out then having to dial in the fan again is my least favorite job and so I don't mind spending more on bearings. My bearings (usually stock) seem to last about 6 months or so even though I always run the engine dry (at idle). I'd happily pay $100 if the bearing would last 1 to 2 years. Hate dialing - love flying!
